AILING Altrincham are still looking for the win which would almost certainly guarantee their Blue Square Premier survival after crashing 1-0 at lowly Ebbsfleet.

Ricky Grand’s seventh minute strike was enough to send Alty spinning to their sixth defeat in eight games – one which leaves them still three points short of boss Graham Heathcote’s safety target of 50 with now just seven left to play.

And it was a bad night, too, for next-to-bottom Northwich Victoria as they slipped ever nearer relegation in being held 1-1 by visiting Salisbury.

Vics’ bid for a second successive win to further boost their last-ditch attempt to beat the drop started well when Simon Grand gave them a 24th minute lead.

But a Charlie Griffin equaliser 10 minutes after the break ultimately forced Northwich to settle for a draw which means they’re now 15 points adrift of safety and needing nothing short of a miracle to stay up.

Elsewhere, Stalybridge and Droylsden each suffered a major Blue Square North promotion set-back as big rivals Alfreton beat Stafford to strengthen their claim for a play-off place. Leigh Genesis earned their first win under Garry Flitcroft, 2-1 against Cammell Laird.
