GLOSSOP North End manager Steve Young says his Wembley hopefuls will be going for the kill in the first-leg of their FA Carlsberg Vase semi-final at Chalfont St Peter on Saturday.

Young believes the Hillmen can make the return leg at Surrey Street little more than a formality by soundly beating South Midlands League high-fliers Chalfont in their own Buckinghamshire backyard.

Having seen Glossop plunder no fewer than 28 goals in eight ties en route to the semis, Young is adamant Glossop's best chance of reaching the May 10 Wembley final is to play to win straight from the off.

The Glossop chief told M.E.N. Sport: "We're going to Chalfont to win and hopefully put the semi-final to bed on the day.

"We understand the tie is decided over two legs, but we're not the sort of team to go there looking for a draw in the hope we can then finish them off at our place.

"Chalfont may be favourites to win the competition, but we feel we've beaten better teams than them on our way to the semis."

Boss Young does, however, have injury concerns ahead of tomorrow's tie.

Both centre-half Kelvin Lugsden and midfield kingpin Nick Allen face being sidelined as they're each struggling to shake off knocks sustained in Glossop's 2-0 Vodkat North West Counties League victory over Bacup nine days ago.

The pair have since missed wins against Maine Road and St Helens but have been undergoing regular treatment in a bid to be fit for surely the biggest game in the Hillmen's history.

Glossop will have the backing of a big army of travelling fans at Chalfont, with anything up to 400 - twice their average home attendance - expected to make the trip down the M1.
