FC duo's red card puzzle

PUZZLED: Karl Marginson

FC UNITED manager Karl Marginson has reacted with bemusement to the red cards shown to him and star player Jerome Wright in the stormy finish to last week’s draw with Buxton.

Wright was sent off for a second yellow card after tangling with an opponent – who also received a booking -  and Marginson was dismissed to the stands after protesting to the referee and linesman over the incident.

“The referee didn’t see what happened,” said Marginson. “The other lad sat on Jerome’s head  and was punching him in the face. I was watching it clearly, and thought the linesman must have seen the same thing.

“Lo and behold, he gave Jerome a yellow card. I asked the linesman why, and he said Jerome pushed the other lad in the chest – hgow he could do that when he was sitting on his head, I don’t know.

“The referee told me to get back in the box, but I then pointed out to the linesman what he had missed. The referee came over and did what he did.

“I went in to see the referee afterwards and he told me I was sent off for calling him an expletive – which I didn’t do.”

Wright, who will now miss next week’s home game with Frickley, but is free to play on Sunday at Matlock Town, was also stunned: “It was a joke. me and the other lad had a tackle and he landed on top of me. Then he sat on my head with his hand in my face.

“I pushed him off me and then it all went off and the next thing, I was walking. The referee told me it was a linesman’s decision.

“He said I was dragging the opponent down to the floor, but I don’t know whay I would be dragging down someone who was itting on my head!”

Its all well and good referee’s going on about 'Respect' but when they are in capable of doing their job properly they shouldn’t be too surprised if they get stick for it. I bet any six fingered dulling banjo boy from darn't 'bridge could have got that much right.

Free Red I find your comments offensive and they discredit your club, just because things don't go your way there is no need to suggest that 'I bet any six fingered dulling banjo boy from darn't 'bridge could have got that much right'.

Officals are always going to make mistakes at games, they're just like the rest of us. However, it would be nice if just a bit more often, after a period of reflection and reviewing of what actually went on, a few more officials might actually have the good grace to admit when they've got it wrong.

FC United threw away an early lead to go down 2-1 at Matlock Town in another frustrating afternoon against a side struggling for UniBond Premier Division survival. Carlos Roca pounced after nine minutes to set the Reds on course for three vital points but the Derbyshire side fought back for victory in front of 1,038 supporters at Causeway Lane. Dene Cropper headed the equaliser 10 minutes before the break and although Sam Ashton made an excellent penalty save in the second half, United still managed to lose in injury time. The Reds were made to rue missed chances when Jamie Donnelly-Jackson struck in the 92nd minute, sealing a 2-1 win for the Gladiators and delivering a blow for our promotion hopes. But you never know, it wouldn’t be the first time we've rode our luck to the end of the season. Viva la revolution, come on FC.

Looks like the first season without promotion for little United. It is a good division to consolidate in though IMO this level served Wimbledon well it will do the same for FCUoM. Up the Reds!

Good 2-0 win for FC United on Saturday. Frickly were never really in it. Just as well the way Roca kept missing sitters.

Next up, North Ferriby United v FC United of Manchester, Tuesday 17th March 2009, kick off 7:45pm. This game is to be played at Grange Lane, Church Road, North Ferriby, HU14 3AA. This game is pay on the gate. Admission prices are as follows: Adults: £8 Concessions: £4 Under 16s: £4

Directions. From the North: From the East Coast below Middlesborough it is probably best to head for Beverley and then follow directions listed under "from Hull and the East" Alternatively, try and get to the M62 or A63 by using either the A1 or, if you are coming from nearer York, the A1079 and the A1034 after Market Weighton. Once you have made it to the A63 follow the instructions "from the West" above

From the West: If you are heading to Ferriby from the West, the secret is to get onto the Eastbound M62 as soon as you can and follow it all the way to the end, it becomes the A63 about 12 miles from Hull. Keep heading on towards Hull. Look out for the turn off for Ferriby on the left. Go over the bridge and follow this road all the way around until you get past the Duke of Cumberland Pub. There is a crossroads just after the pub, you need to turn right down Church Road. Follow the road down, past the Church, and you will eventually come upon a sign for the ground on your left, just before the overhead rail bridge. It is usually best to find somewhere to park on Church Road, as the carpark down Grange Lane fills up fast. From the top of Grange Lane it is a short walk past the allotments to the ground.

From The South: Unless you actually live in Lincolnshire your best bet is probably to get onto the A1 or M1 north, and head towards Hull, taking the M18 and the M62, then following the instructions above for getting to Ferriby from the West. If you do live in Lincolnshire then you might consider the Humber Bridge on the A15 North from Lincoln, although it does cost something like £2.60 for a car, and more for minibuses and coaches. Once over the bridge turn left at the roundabout towards Leeds and the M62. You soon come across a left turning signposted North Ferriby. Follow this road down, past the Skoda garage and to the crossroads, where you turn left into Church Road. Follow the road down, past the Church, and you will eventually come upon a sign for the ground on your left, just before the overhead rail bridge. It is usually best to find somewhere to park on Church Road, as the car park down Grange Lane fills up fast. From the top of Grange Lane it is a short walk past the allotments to the ground

Rail: The ground is to the North East of the station, so if you have travelled from Hull you will have to cross the footbridge over the tracks. Once out of the station, follow the first road on the right, you will come out on Church Road, Grange Lane is only a couple of hundred yards down the road and to your right.

Another win last night when FC United beat a 10 man North Ferriby United 0-2. it's a good win against one of our play-off rivals.
