The rebel Reds' hopes of consolidating their position in the play-off places came well and truly unstuck as their run of five wins in six games was ended in a crushing 3-0 defeat at title-chasing Nantwich.
Karl Marginson's men were soon up against it when the prolific Michael Lennon fired the hosts in front with a 13th minute penalty after Adam Tong had handled Glyn Blackhurst's goal-bound shot on the line.
Tong surprisingly escaped with a booking, but there were to be no more such lucky escapes for United as Nantwich sealed the points with further strikes by Ashley Carter and Lennon in the second-half.
Elsewhere, there was further woe for relegation-haunted pair Hyde United and Leigh Genesis as both lost yet again.
The troubled Tigers remain entrenched in the Blue Square North drop-zone after sinking 2-0 at high-flying Southport.
Ex-Droylsden striker Steve Daly was Hyde's two-goal assassin as the Sandgrounders cruised to victory over the cash-strapped Ewen Fields outfit.
Leigh wasted a chance to haul themselves off the foot of the UniBond premier division in going down 3-1 to Hednesford.
And Lee Merricks' side had no-one to blame but themselves as they squandered a hatful of chances before the championship-chasing visitors finally showed their class by easing into a three-goal lead.
Phil Marsh pulled one back on the hour, but it wasn't enough.
Meanwhile, Glossop's FA Vase fifth-round clash at Bitton and Altrincham's home Blue Square Premier date with Eastbourne headed the long list of postponed games.
Abbey Hey boosted their Vodkat premier division survival bid with Danny Heffernan scoring twice in their 3-1 win at Formby, while Flixton's Chris Smith was also a two-goal star as the Valley Road side came from behind to beat Colne 2-1.
Cheadle lost 1-0 to visiting first division leaders AFC Liverpool. Tweet

A bad day at the office for FC. Following that early penalty, we were always chasing the game, with Nantwich content to play on the break. Good at it they were, too. The ref's decision for the penalty was somewhat baffling. Whilst I have no argument with the actual award, given that Tong handled on the line and prevented a goal, surely it was either a penalty AND a red card, or, if the handball was deemed accidental, then play should continue. This referee - not the first we have seen like him at this level - dithered and then adopted some kind of reasoning which was all his own. Tong was allowed to remain on the field, escaping with a booking. Anyway, as it turned out it made no difference either way. All in all a day best forgotten. Let's hope the winning form will return against Leigh Genesis on Saturday. In Margy we trust.
On this morning's Radio 1, Chris Moyles and his team didn't have a clue who FC United were.
That tells its own story really!
That Michael Lennon is some player! I expect him to be snapped up in the next transfer window.
Well Down Nantwich and good luck for the rest of the season.
Terry Medford
Hey Vegas blue ! Who the hell cares what Chris Moyles thinks ? You do realise of course that the majority of those equipped with a brain wouldn't have a clue who Moyles is ? And the fact that you listen to Radio 1 says it all about you, too. Radio 1 listener AND a bitter. Not much in your life to get excited about, is there ?
Hey FC John Ladyboy,
Here you are having a go at people again for having the temerity to submit their views!, tut tut!. You accuse vegas blue of not having much in his life to get "excited" about, well if your idea of excitment is the sub-standard pub football served up by FC, then I suggest you have a problem much much bigger than Mr Vegas.
You may not like it but I also heard the Chris Moyles show this morning and yes I can confirm he has never heard of FC United, if you can't handle that, then tough luck sonny jim!.
Oo 'eck ! Another sad Bertie coming on here to have a go. Get a life, saddo. Believe it or not I have NEVER been on a MCFC site. Why on earth would I want to ? What for ? And why would I care what Moyles thinks, or whether he has heard of FC or not ? His opinion is utterly irrelevant to those who actually GO. Bet you've never been near an FC game have you ? Pub football - that one is getting a bit worn, but then for pub football we ain't doing so bad. 3 promotions in 3 years, plus a couple of cups. Not bad for a pub team. And it's all been done under our own steam - no help from Americans, Arab billionaires or anyone else. Actually I don't mind anyone expressing an opinion - even Berties - so long as it is based on SOME knowledge of the subject. Two very good friends of mine, both Bitterdome season ticket holders, have been to FC both home and away (when City are away) and they love it. They particularly love the atmosphere, but then with your ONE "only city sing it" song, what would you know about atmosphere ?
John I can't believe you are admitting that you take City fans to FC and they love it? What happened to 2 hearts but the soul is one? Does this extend to City fans an Scousers?
Think about it Terry. These poor people deserve to see just how enjoyable football CAN be. Then, unfortunately, they go back to Bertieland and are devastated. Seriously though, I take great pleasure from the fact that blue money has been paid into our club. It wouldn't bother me how many bricks the city fans end up buying for our new ground. They can buy them all if they want ! (I do draw the line at scousers though.)
FC's attendances are plummeting, so they're not bothered who turns up these days. I'm sure that it would need a few pints before going to watch fc's kick and rush football!
im not an fc fan but vegas blue you need to get a grip.us city fans can`t call anyone.34 years i have been waiting for a trophy.yes 34 long years.it can`t get more pathetic than that.can it?
That's got to be a first - Malc talking sense for once. And Vegas blue, you have just confirmed what I think we all knew. you have never seen FC play. You are also talkng rubbish as far as our attendances are concerned. We are still averaging over 2,000, which at step 7 of the pyrmaid is truly amazing. We are the best-supported club at our level anywhere in Europe - and probably the world. But then again, our support is not just about numbers - it's about quality. As the manager says, 90% of the crowd sing for 90 minutes, with a variety of songs unparalelled at any level, most of them FC originals. Around 300 fans have volunteered for all kinds of jobs within the club, selling programmes, stewarding, turnstile duties, community work, fund-raising etc., etc. It is a truly remarkable club, and has won five more trophies in it's short existence than your bitter crew have won in 33 years. (Yes Malc, you got your maths wrong mate - the last time anyone had to tie sky blue ribbons onto a major trophy was 1976. Elvis was still alive !)
Your manager never followed united, I remember him saying he was decorating his living room when the 99 Champions league final was on.
Sounds a top red
