Two goals from ace marksman Kyle Wilson, taking his season's tally to 22, followed by a late Jerome Wright strike earned FC a resounding triumph over a Hednesford side who'd arrived at Gigg Lane cock-a-hoop from thrashing Hyde United 5-0 in the FA Trophy.
It was just the tonic Marginson's men had been looking for after going three games without a win in the league.
And it's a victory the Rebels manager will now expect his players to add to when they visit Woodley Sports for a rearranged UniBond Challenge Cup third-round clash tomorrow (7.45pm).
Marginson said: "I couldn't have asked for any more from the lads and they've given themselves a massive confidence boost with that result.
"Our challenge now is to build on it."
Wilson gave FC a 14th minute lead when he seized on Wright's inch-perfect cross to fire home.
Prolific
But the prolific front man then had to wait until 20 minutes from time before adding his and United's second goal after being set up by his debut-making co-striker Tommy Turner, who made an impressive bow following his midweek switch from Bacup.
There was no way back for Hednesford after that and Wright duly capped FC's best win of the season with a fierce left-footed drive from the edge of the box.
Meanwhile, Altrincham fell to easily their heaviest home defeat of the season in crashing 4-0 to fellow Blue Square Premier mid-table outfit Rushden and Diamonds.
But the ten-man Robins had cause to feel hard done by after having midfielder Shaun Densmore controversially sent off with just 21 minutes played and the game still scoreless.
Densmore saw red for upending Yannick Bolasie - a decision which proved to have a major bearing on the result as Rushden hit gold.
There was disappointment, too, for Alty's ailing Cheshire neighbours Northwich, who remain entrenched in the drop-zone after going down 1-0 at home to Crawley.
Struggling Hyde United were given a 6-3 Blue Square North hiding at Gateshead, but the troubled Tigers did at one stage threaten to make a fight of it after recovering from being 4-0 down to trail 4-3 with player-manager Neil Tolson again among their scorers.
Promotion-chasing Stalybridge's Bower Fold clash with Farsley was postponed due to fog, while Leigh's UniBond premier tussle at Bradford and Mossley's first division north derby with Woodley were frozen off.
UniBond premier high-fliers Ashton United climbed three places to fourth with Ians Bennett and Kearney scoring in their 2-1 win at Buxton.
Rock-bottom Salford's first division north relegation plight deepened as they were thrashed 6-1 by visiting Chorley.

DIRECTIONS to Woodley Sports. From the M60 leave at Junction 25 signposted for Bredbury. Follow signs for the A560 Bredbury and Sheffield. After passing the McDonalds Drive-Thru, take a left at the traffic lights and proceed down Stockport Road towards Woodley, passing under the railway bridge at Bredbury Railway Station. After passing St Mark's Church on the right, you reach a set of traffic lights. Immediately after the lights, at The Lowes Arms and before the Woodley Arms Pub, turn left onto Mill Street. Proceed over the bridge on Mill Lane and then follow the signs to the ground. Viva la revolution, come on FC.
