FC United suffered their first defeat in eight games, going down to the UniBond League's form team Eastwood.
The Badgers arrived at Gigg Lane after just one defeat in 14, including the scalp of Conference big guns Wrexham in the FA Cup.
And their tight, well-organised defence proved too tough a nut for the lack-lustre Rebels to penetrate, on a cold blustery night.
The game turned on a 44th minute incident when on-loan Rotherham winger Andy Todd, through one-on-one with goalkeeper Sam Ashton, went down under a challenge from behind by Adam Carden.
Striker Ian Holmes tucked away the spot kick, and FC - unchanged from the team which came close to beating second-placed Guiseley on Sunday - had no response.

Unlike last weeks 5-5 result, it doesn't require a long match report to sum up the game.
The Eastwood defence were VERY solid and looked like Conference standard to me, although I would have liked to see them tested a bit more.
At last the mystery penalty decision seems to have been cleared up. Did anybody else think it was a penalty on the night? Did anyone even claim a penalty?
Anyway, back to cup football and an exciting FA Trophy fixture on Sunday. Bring it on.
I thought we played below par and to be honest I can't say I was that impressed with Eastwood. There defence was solid enough but other than that they weren't all that special. They were good at diving, snide tackling, play acting and generally time wasting after they took the lead. I can't say too much about Eastwood Towns penalty though because there were too many bodies in the box for me to get a clear view, but our shout for a pen in the second half was stone wall. The ref was less than 15 feet away from the ball when Simon Carden was brought down from behind in the area. Anyone near the MRE end could see the Eastwood player didn't get any of the ball, even the liner flagged for a pen yet for some strange reason the ref waved play on! I understand the ref apologised after the match. Not to worry, it's not the first time we have had a 0-1 draw and I don't suppose it will be the last. Let's hope we get the rub of the green in our FA Trophy game against Boston on Sunday. Viva la Revolution, come on FC.
this was my first fc united game, maybe im a jinx. didn't really enjoy the game may or may not go back. anybody else think the ground smells like rotting flesh? had to wrap a scarf around my face and look like a thug to keep the stench out.
Poor game I thought you get them at all levels still better than watching england any day. Up the Reds!

Team news, FC United should have Papis available after picking up a knock on Wednesday night, Chris Baguley and Adam Turner will face late checks, whilst Jamie Baguley remains sidelined for a couple of weeks alongside Danny Williams.
