But FC United's mini-revival came screeching to a halt, reined in by Kendal winger Carl Osman, brother of Everton star Leon.
The Rebels had won their last two league games, scoring nine in the process.
But high-flying Kendal put the shackles on 13-goal top-scorer Kyle Wilson and that severely restricted the FC threat.
Osman started the rot after just 40 seconds, latching on to a deflected pass to finish with aplomb.
Kendal's veteran player/ manager Lee Ashcroft was sent off for an elbow on FC full-back Simon Garner, who swiftly followed for a retaliatory head butt.
Chris Baguley saw his penalty saved before redeeming himself with the equaliser on 43 minutes after sterling work by Jerome Wright.
The Rebels could easily have had the game wrapped up by half-time as Wilson shot into the side netting after a great piece of control, and skipper Dave Chadwick saw a header somehow saved on the line by Kendal keeper David Newnes.
Kendal rallied in the second half and Michael Cole took advantage of some shoddy defending to edge the Cumbrians ahead again.
Osman secured the points on 65 minutes when his shot took a deflection to soar past keeper Sam Ashton.

We started badly conceding an early goal which put us on the back foot for the rest of the half. We played some good football in the first half though and could have taken the lead if we had taken our chances. But Kendal was the better team on the night. They looked comfortable as a unit all through the second half; first to the ball in just about every 50/50 challenge and in the end deserved the win. Lets hope we can get back to winning ways in the cup on Saturday. Viva la Revolution, come on FC.
I enjoy how Stuart Brennan can refer to himself in the third person now. That is truly a sign he has hit the big time. Dash Walny truly thinks that Free Red should start up his own website blog, or maybe this is it?
You have lost me there Walnut. Not quite sure what you are on about. But no doubt this defeat will fulfill your prophecy that FC would fold by Christmas. Er Christmas 2005 I believe.
Watching FCUoM lose is better than watching england on the goggle box. Up the Reds!
Don't understand Walnut, Johnniejohn ? Now there's a surprise. But don't worry, even he hasn't a clue what he's on about. That was a very strange posting though, even for him. Drifter, you are spot on - even though we lost on Wednesday, even though we were outplayed, it's still such a hugely enjoyable experience being at FC that I for one wouldn't want to be anywhere else. And not a billionaire in sight !
