Alty, FC victorious

A CHRIS Senior goal after just 14 seconds was enough to give Altrincham a memorable Blue Square Premier victory over former League full-timers Mansfield at Moss Lane last night, writes Tony Glennon.

Senior, recalled in place of Joe O'Neill to partner Colin Little in attack, stunned the high-flying visitors when he rounded off a sweeping three-man move straight from the kick-off to fire in what turned out to be the game's only goal.

Northwich Victoria finally ended their long wait for their first win of the season as they recovered from the shock of falling behind to Barrow to beat the visiting Cumbrians 2-1.

Matt Henney rocked Vics by giving Barrow a third-minute lead, but Dino Maamria's men hit back through Michael Welch (47) and Aaron Burns (85).

There was joy, too, for FC United as they ended their five-match winless stretch with a thumping 4-0 UniBond premier division triumph at Ossett Town.

Carlos Roca's deflected 11th-minute strike - his first goal for the Rebels - gave them a head-start. Kyle Wilson added two sandwiched by a second for Roca.

Cracking win for FC. We have threatened to cut loose a few times this season but not had the bite up front, plus have leaked too many at the back. Now however, with the two excellent new full backs, plus the added bonus of Rob Nugent to come back in, our defensive frailties will hopefully become a thing of the past. The midfield too will only get better once the Baguley brothers are both fit and available. There is no doubt they bring much-needed creativity. All we need now is a decent strike partner for Kyle Wilson and we could go on a decent run and climb the table. In Margy we trust. Come on FC !
