Rebels ready for 'biggest game'

KARL Marginson has described tonight's UniBond Division One North playoff semi-final against Bamber Bridge as the biggest match in FC United's history.

And the Rebels manager is convinced his players will suffer no hangover from missing out on the title by just a single point last weekend.

United face Bamber Bridge at Gigg Lane tonight for the chance to take on the winners of Skelmersdale and Curzon this weekend.

Marginson said: "There is no sense of us feeling sorry for ourselves. History tells you that the side that comes closest to going up often fall away in the playoffs.

"But for me it doesn't matter if it is second v fifth or third v fourth, it's a case of who is in the best form and that is us."

Skelmersdale beat Curzon Ashton 3-0 in the other semi final play off last night so this weekend's final will be the winner of tonight's match against them and regardless of the outcome of tonights fixture the league will be presenting trophies to the players for finishing second in the league behind Bradford Park Avenue.

Also a sewer has collapsed at the junction of Gigg Lane and Manchester Road, forcing Bury Council into ordering an emergency road closure. Pedestrians can access Gigg Lane as normal, but vehicles must use diversions in place, via Parkhills Road and Market Street. Motorists have been asked to be mindful of the usual parking restrictions and allow extra time for their journey. The council said it is very possible the road closure will still be in operation on Saturday 3rd May, where if we are successful tonight we will face Skelmersdale United at Gigg Lane in the play-off final.

An outstanding achievement by the boys, who, in spite of several long-term injuries to key players, together with a quite horrendous backlog of fixtures, managed to come within a single point of the title. Now it's up to those of us on the MRE and in the Main Stand to roar them on to success tonight. We will then have to do the same all over again on Saturday. This crowd will not be found wanting I'm sure. As Margy once said, "It's the only crowd I know where 90% of them sing non-stop for 90 minutes." Let's all go home with our ears ringing !

FCUM beat Brig 3-2 tonight in a VERY tight game which takes us through to another final on Saturday. I would have liked United to play Liverpool in the other final but Chelsea will do. We'll beat 'em just the same. Up the Reds!

We're there in Saturday's play off final with tonight's 3-2 win against Bamber Bridge!! Another superb atmosphere as well to see us through against a tough team. Let's hope we can repeat the trick at the weekend. Come on FC.

I forgot to mention the flyer I was given about this Saturday 'FC United play off final festival at Gigg Lane Bury' – featuring – FC United of Manchester versus Skelmersdale United for the right to be promoted to the Unibond Premier division. Pre-match entertainment includes a beat the goale bouncy castle game, kids face painting, FC players in the stocks, 'keep it up for FC' and much much more. For grown ups who like a pint the Bury Social club will be showing the United verses West Ham game on two wide screens pre-match from 12.45pm. Fun starts from 12.30pm and goes on til 5.00pm unless the game goes into extra time and penalties. It should be a cracker of a day for all the family. Up the Reds!
