Promotion-chasing Cambridge inflicted a second 5-0 defeat in four days on the bottom-of-the-table Bloods, who were powerless to prevent their seventh successive league loss after Scott Rendell had fired the home side into an 11th minute lead. Rendell went on to complete his hat-trick after Rob Wolleaston and ex-Rochdale striker Lee McEvilly had put Cambridge three-up.
It was a bad night, too, for Stalybridge, who suffered a shock 4-2 home defeat by Burscough.
The visitors were gifted two of their goals by keeper Paddy Gamble and, though Bridge worked hard for theirs, scored by Matty Barlow and James Dean, they were to provide little consolation.
