Non-league

FC United 2 Chorley 1

FC UNITED boss Karl Marginson conceded his off-key Rebels had been fortunate to beat 10-man Chorley to stay in the slipstream of UniBond First Division North leaders Curzon Ashton.

The lowly Magpies stunned Marginson's men when Stephen Burke gave them an eighth-minute lead, but the visitors then had Gavin Lee-Ellison sent off after he appeared to push Jerome Wright in the face.

Rory Patterson's 41st minute free-kick put FC back on terms, but they then had a series of lucky escapes and were relieved when substitute Simon Carden finally killed off Chorley with a 76th minute headed strike securing a win which takes them up to fourth.

"We were certainly not at our best," admitted Marginson, whose FC side have now taken 13 points from the last 15 to restore hopes of a third successive promotion.

Victory keeps the Rebels six points behind leaders Curzon, who ended their mini-slump in style by thrashing Bridlington 6-0, with Mike Norton helping himself to a hat-trick.

It sounds like Margy could do with a borrow of Fergies hair drier next Saturday! I did not know that Chorley are known as the Magpies as well as ironic United should played the big barcodes on the same day..spooky..Whooh!

A poor performance by F.C.'s standards, but any team will have that experience in the course of a season - not playing particularly well yet picking up three points. The most encouraging aspect of the game was the return - albeit as a sub - of Josh Howard. Undoubtedly the best playmaker at the club, he has been sorely missed. It seems that Stuart Rudd and Dave Chadwick are also well on the mend now, which augurs well for that big promotion push. With all the injuries to such key players, I reckon F.C. have done brilliantly just to stay in touch with the leaders. We haven't had the benefit of a full-strength side all season, yet are still in contention.

Never mind kiwi non-league the National league may give the Salford sunday league a run.And the team from Christchurch are rock bottom and the team above them with one win are run by Terry Phelan. f.c would have ten by half time against any kiwi team.
