PROMOTION-chasing Hyde United marched to the top of Blue Square North with first-half goals by Gareth Seddon and Matthew Tipton giving them a 2-0 win over Nuneaton.

Seddon gave Hyde the lead in the ninth minute, collecting Tipton's pass before hammering a shot past Nuneaton keeper Darren Acton.

After having a goal ruled out for offside, Seddon then created the second, smashing a shot against the crossbar, which Tipton followed up to fire home.

Chris Lynch then hit the bar with a cross-shot from the left flank, Seddon hit the post and Nicky Clee was also denied by the woodwork as the Tigers dominated the first half.

Andy Brown had a late chance for Nuneaton, but keeper Craig Dootson made a superb save.

Stalybridge's clash at Hinckley fell victim to the weather, as did a host of UniBond fixtures, including FC United's game at Ossett Albion, although first division Curzon Ashton beat Mossley 4-2.
