Shane Kelsey stunned the Rebels as he ghosted in behind their defence to side-foot Ossett in front after just 35 seconds.
And it took a slice of good fortune to get Karl Marginson's men back on terms in the 40th minute when Chris Baguley's blocked shot hit Rory Patterson on the side of the head and went in.
Patterson squeezed in his 15th goal of the season to give FC an advantage they rarely looked like conceding and Peter Thomson added the third.

The vote on five year membership has been put back to the March GM so the Board can check the proposed £45 cost of 5 year membership would not leave membership running at a loss. There was a vote to clarify what constitutes acceptable lettering/logos on the team kit a third vote on the continued use of Beever and Struthers as our independent auditors. By the way our club is in a sound financial state.
There was an in-depth discussion about our own ground which was central to the event. We discussed development fund activities and match day running then proceedings ended with a question answer session with Margy and Rob Nugent.
I could go into more depth but you will be able to read all of this for yourself when the minutes are published on our official website. We certainly don't have anything to worry about.

Assistant manager, Phil Power, said he is confident the team can break their Radcliffe duck and send out a warning sign to the Bridge before the teams meet in the league on November 17th. Power also said: "I don't know what kind of team Bamber Bridge will be putting out, but we are planning to put out a very strong team for this one and we are focused on winning, especially given the previous two cup performances. I think both sides will have one eye on the league match in a few weeks time and there will be a psychological edge for the winner going into that trip. That said, if we lose on Wednesday, we won't let it bother us when we travel there, as that is an important game too and we will be well up for it." He added "I think anyone who watched the last cup performance against Bradford Park Avenue will agree that it was terrible. I was watching from the bench and it hurt me and I know it hurt the players too. But they have really picked their performances up in the last few league games and I am sure they will compete equally as well on Wednesday. We are very confident."
FC United are set to rest injured centre back Rob Nugent (groin) and probably give a rest upfront to Rory Patterson, so Saturday's goal scorer Peter Thompson can start. Other than that, the reds are expected to be unchanged from the 3-1 win over Ossett Albion. If the game ends in a draw, it will be decided by extra time or penalties on the night.
The social club will be open before and after the game. Access to the social club will be from inside the ground only. Turnstiles will be open from 6.15pm. Viva la revolution, come on FC.
