Bloods boss Dave Pace carried out his threat to rest several first-team regulars, including skipper Steve Halford and strike duo Jody Banim and Chris Denham, ahead of Saturday's big FA Cup fourth qualifying-round clash at Corby.
And FC, who play three divisions below Droylsden, seized on that advantage over their struggling Blue Square Premier hosts to record a famous victory.
Cayne Hanley gave the Rebels a head-start when he rose above the Droylsden defence in the 12th minute to nod in Jerome Wright's cross.
And the tie was effectively settled when the visitors struck twice in a minute just before the hour to leave the Bloods trailing 3-0.
Nicky Platt was the architect on each occasion, first sending Aaron Burns clear to score and then starting the move which culminated in Burns squaring for Rory Patterson to add FC's third.
Gavin Salmon pulled one back in the 72nd minute, firing home from Robbie Talbot's cross. Terry Fearns further reduced the arrears with a 90th-minute penalty, but it was too late.

MATCH PREVIEW. Albion are enjoying a good start to the season and boast the second best attack in the league after Bradford Park Avenue, however they also have the third worst defensive record, conceding 22 in just 11 games, so goals could well be on the menu.
The Reds have a whole host of new players itching to make their debuts and show what they can do as manager Karl Marginson has wisely strengthened his injury stricken squad. Vital players in last season's double winning success such as captain David Chadwick, Stuart Rudd, Josh Howard and Steve Spencer are facing potentially lengthy lay offs but in recent weeks Margy has acquired the services of midfielders Adam Carden, and Theo Coleman as well as strikers Cayne Hanley and Aaron Burns.
In the past week they have been joined by midfielder Jamie Baguley from Salford City, who teams up with younger brother Chris – star of the defeat of Wakefield FC last time out at Gigg Lane, striker Peter Thomson who has played at Conference level with Stafford Rangers and Altrincham, and former Bury and Rochdale utility player Colin Bell.
With eight goals in the last three matches it's fair to say that the Reds now appear to have a plethora of attacking options. The league’s top scorer Rory Patterson will be confident of keeping his place in the team but it will be interesting to see who Margy plays alongside the young Irishman.
With three goals in two games former Manchester United attacker Aaron Burns will be hoping he has done enough to make his home debut on Saturday but former Rochdale trainee Hanley appears to have found his scoring boots and Thomson will add even more competition.
Getting a place in midfield is just as tough too. The seemingly ever-dangerous Jerome Wright would be a good bet to start but whether he will be partnered by either of the Cardens, the Baguley brothers, Nicky Platt or Dave Swarbrick is probably a decision Margy will make at the 11th hour.
Despite United's recent return to form, they cannot expect to have it all their own way as Albion have absolutely no intention of making the numbers. Manager Eric Gilchrist is in confident mood ahead of Saturday's match: “We are pleased with our current league position and have already turned over some of the bigger-spending clubs. We have a small squad, with a number of young players who have come through the ranks. If we remain injury-free there is no reason why we cannot with the league. Our best side can compete with anyone."
And Eric is excited by how the current season in the UniBond Division One North is shaping up in general. He added: "The addition of big clubs like FC United, Bradford and Newcastle has strengthened the league. This is not a straightforward league to win and it will be interesting to see how these teams react to early season setbacks."

Beats me why someone wants to pretend they are someone else, but there you are.
Beats me even more why someone wants to pretend they come from Leigh, takes all sorts I suppose.

So why are you trotting out the same old comments that our little blue friends do? Gigg Lane is a temporary home until our own stadium can be obtained.
The exact co-ordinates of the ground where a team plays is not the sole basis for where that team is "from".
And also, "KC7", I hope you enjoyed Droylsden v. "a non-league team". You'll find Droylesden are non-league too.

That sounds dubious but I believe it's the right way to go to support a team that is owned and run by Manchester United fans like Free Red and I reckon others would follow me.
Imagine if F.C. made it to the Premier League, did well and gradually all the United supporters supported them and F.C. started playing home matches at Old Trafford to accomodate all the fans.
Whilst the Glazer-run Manchester United would be playing to an empty Old Trafford.
Then, sooner or later Glazer would realise that he won't make a profit and he'll want to sell, and that's when the United Supporters Trust will strike, forcing Glazer out.
And then we could probably dissolve F.C.
Very fanciful but you never know, this is what we should be aiming for, that should be our ultimate goal.
But first let's focus on getting F.C. out of the regional leagues, and with the class and resources we have, it can be done.
Imagine the pro-Glazer brigade getting more and more frightened and resentful as F.C. keep climbing the divisions!
F.C. fans are United fans as I said and as such will sing as many United chants as they like (and have even been applauded by the stewards and opposing fans for doing so), despite what you think KingCantona7.

I'm an Eric Cantona fanatic too, I'm even wearing a "Cantona" shirt right now!
