Chorley must be a really poor side.

The FC team were back to their best on Saturday putting in what has to be our best performance at this level. Chorley on the other hand started flat and to be honest were never really in it. I only recall them making one serious attempt on goal just before Rory scored his second, but Sam made the save and after that it was all over bar the shouting. I thought their keeper, Peter Collinge, had a good game though. He made some good saves keeping the score down to 0-3. All we need now is a little consistency and we will at least make the playoffs.

Next up, SKELMERSDALE v. FC UNITED, tonight, Tuesday 2nd October 2007 K.O. 7.45pm. This game is to be played at Ashley Travel Stadium, Selby Place, Statham Road, Skelmersdale, Lancashire, WN8 8EF. SKELMERSDALE 3(1)-(1)1 FC UNITED. The score line reflected last night's performance. In the first half their wasn't much between the teams. Skelmersdale opened their account was a cracking shot from an acute angle and our Rory soon replied with a fantastic shot from about 45 yards out. After that it was end to end stuff until half time. In the second half things changed. Where Skelmesdale stepped up a gear, we stalled. Our defence was poor and other than the usual spirited performance from Rory Patterson we looked pretty flat and this is against a team who are on a par with Chorley. It would seem the only consistency our team can muster this year is varied performances. We play Bradford PA away next Saturday in the FA Trophy who are flying at the moment so we will have to be at our best if then if we are to progress.

MEDIOCRITY LOOMS! not good enough, the players are struggling against the good sides in this league. there needs to be an influx of new players or something new.i envisaged this happening at some stage during the progression and now the team is obviously not good enough to challenge for promotion(on this form anyway) it's time to ACT now rather than when it's too late.

Maybe this league is will be the final resting place for FC. Rest in Peace Free Red. Enjoy the Unibond League. The Unibond has been around for a long time, not sure why it took you this long to be a Unibond club supporter.

Next up, BRADFORD PA v. FC UNITED, Saturday 6th October 2007, k.o. 3.00pmm, to be played at Horsfall Stadium, Cemetry Road, Bradford, West Yorkshire, BD6 2NG. Bradford PA strengthened their team pre-season and are certainly enjoying no small amount of success in their Centenary season. They hold this season's league record for goals scored in one match after beating Rossendale United 9-0 and they also beat Bridlington Town by an eyebrow razing 5-0. They currently sit 4th in the league with 16 points from ten played so if we are to progress in this competition we will have to play like we did last Saturday and not as we played on Tuesday night.

This match will be ticket only. priced £7.50 adults, £4 OAPS and £3 under-16s and tickets are available from the FC United office, 221 Ducie House, 37 Ducie Street, Manchester, M1 2JW until 5pm on Friday. thats a name from the past Bradford park Avenue.I disagree think a cup run will do FC no harm but this will be a seaon of 'consolidation' cliche again but perhaps true.New players are needed and quick, Margy has the experience at this level but do the team need more direction ie somone else at the helm or is it a blip? any suggestions? this is not me having a go at MARGY its me merely setting up a discussion and asking the question, 'if fc were to have a poor season ie finish halfway in the league,would there be grounds for getting new leadership and if not what if this was repeated next season?anyone?

bernie, Manchester. I think your right about the team and Tuesday night was to me symptomatic of our season so far. I understand Margy was livid about Tuesday's result and even though he always said he was always going to give last seasons promotion team a chance to prove themselves, I suspect there will be a few changes if we have a repeat performance on Saturday. As things stand we are fortunate not to have played and lost to a title hopeful so the maths still leaves our destiny in our own hands. I think the Bradford tie may well be a watershed for some of yesteryears team.

Am i in a minority here in thinking the joy of FC is in the being. I know we all would like to be promoted if we can, but if we don't go up does it really matter. The club is still young and looking forward we will be promoted and probably relegated too, let's enjoy the ride.

Stephen Peake, well said. And in an ideal world I would agree with you. Unfortunately, results govern attendances, attendances govern club revenue, etc. etc. If you are happy watching F.C. on your local park with fifty others that's all well and good. But we are a new club which is finding it's feet. At this stage of our evolvement fans can be fickle. We are not Manchester United with lifelong fans. Our fanbase is only two years old and we can't risk half of them staying away because of bad results. I posted after the Fleetwood game that when they (Fleetwood) went down to ten men they wanted it more than some of our players. It's Margy's job to motivate the players and to see to it that they are fit enough to compete for 90 minutes. In my opinion some of them are not as fit as they could be! Yes, we all enjoy the ride, but some are freewheeling.

The collossal failure of FC United will come about when a) Players are no longer willing to "drop down" to whatever league FC is in and b) Margy is over his head managing at the leauge level in which FC competes.

Is the answer YES to both questions already?? Even I thought the ride would go higher than the Unibond. CrowdsSmowds, if the players and manager are not better than the current level, they will not be promoted beyound the Unibond.

dont know what DASH whatever his name is agenda is! Speaking of debate and debate is good, Margy does not have a job for life.It goes without saying that if the team does badly then it reflects on his management.Lets be honest, he's hardly had to dig deep into his knowledge has he?! We could have gained successive promotions with or without MARGY because we were so superior. It is now when we are NOT SUPERIOR that we need strong leadership and forward planning and as for going to the match for the 'match day experience' well I personally want to win EVERY GAME we play. This is IMPOSSIBLE but WE SHOULD ALWAYS STRIVE FOR PERFECTION.

There are going to be plateaus on our push for high levels and i believe we have hit one. Maybe a couple of new faces would help perhaps a period of adjustment for the players to the next level could be the answer. Surley we are in this for the long haul and take the sucess when it comes. Looking at the attendance we have a hard core of 2,300 or so which all in all is great for the standard and the time scale of existance. People i talk to seem keen to come down to see the game and like the basic principle of the club so there is still a market for in provement there. We just got to keep believing in our principles for proper saturday 3pm affordable good football.

Perhaps he though he was refereeing a Bradford Bulls rugby match. Not to worry, it's only half time. Tremendous of Red Dragon to reiterate my comments. When FC had Unibond quality players and was competing in the North West Counties League Division Dos, it was rather easy to be at the top of the table. Now that these (some of) same players are at the level in which they probably belonged, the going is rougher and the manager looks like the grocery bagger that he was. What FC United does in terms of the board and members really is not that different from other clubs in the Unibond. The fans can get just as close to the club at all the other clubs at this level. Once you become like everyone else in terms of management and players, you are JUST like everybody else. (V-neck voted on kits not withstanding)
