The FC stopper was twice felled by full plastic water bottles and a coin thrown from the home end during the warm-up, prompting angry crowd scenes which almost forced referee Andy Pownall to abandon the match before it had even started.
Fleetwood could now face FA sanctions after Mr Pownall, who saw Ashton hit by the two bottles, said he would be including the incidents in his report to the governing body.
FC manager Karl Marginson says he would not like to see Fleetwood punished for the ugly incidents, believed to have been caused by a small group of Liverpool fans.
He said: "I am sure Fleetwood will do all they can to keep those idiots away from their club, but unfortunately it only takes a few to spoil a great day and a good game of football.
"I know the referee has to include it in his report but I wouldn't like to see Fleetwood punished because they did everything they could to make it a great occasion and were let down by a few people intent on causing mither."
The game itself was riddled with incident, FC losing to two Jamie Milligan penalties, the first highly dubious, and the second slotted home after Rory Patterson had levelled for the Rebels.
Fleetwood played the last half-hour with ten men after midfielder Richard Allen was sent off for an off-the-ball incident, but they stood firm against a late FC onslaught.

There were also missiles being through into the FC crowd from outside the ground by more of the same locals, yet these locals were stood within the football grounds perimeter fence so why were they allowed in this area. When challenged about this the stewards who where all hired in made no secret they had only come for the money.
Perhaps those who caused the trouble also see themselves as Liverpool fans but they didn't come from Liverpool and the trouble inside the ground was nothing compared to the scenes on the way out. When I got out more trouble had already started. I heard the Police call some of the trouble causers by name so they must have been local. The scenes on the roads around the ground were reminiscent of the 70s as Police armed with batons and dogs fought running battles with locals.
I understand Fleetwood are going to have discussions about Saturday's events and they do need get their stall in order. From conception great emphasis as been placed on FC United being a family club with one third of the fans base is U18. We have around 2500 fans every home match but there has never been anything like this at Gigg lane. I would think Fleetwood would want to emulate out achievements off the pitch and become as well supported as FC United are. But family's local or otherwise won't want to go if this is how their fans behave. I hope they get it right for their sake, but in the mean time, I wouldn't recommend anyone take their family to watch football in Fleetwood.

Once inside the ground things didn't improve, the stewards had little or no idea what was going on and as one steward said to me "we couldn't care less where you stand mate we get paid the same either way", more Munich chants and objects being thrown onto the pitch by the idiots from Fleetwood nearly had the game called off before a ball was kicked, and the referee quite rightly made the players leave the pitch, but no action was taken by the "stewards" maybe they where upset that they got the away end in their own ground because they don't have the following we have??
Once the game had started things got even worse only this time the objects where being thrown at FC fans and yet again the "stewards" stood by and did nothing.
I've just read Fleetwood Towns account of the match on their website and surprisingly there's no mention of any of this!!
Little or no complaints about the match itself apart from a few dodgy decisions and two penalties that never should have stood I thought the officials did ok.
The events after the match speak for themselves, which bright spark thought it was for the best letting both sets of fans out at the same time after the events before the match???? It beggers belief that not one person thought "hang on a minute, this might get a bit nasty if they bump into each other!!" the police behaved superbly thoughout the ensuing violence and seem to be fully aware that the troublemakers were Fleetwood fans(I use the word fans very loosely) the majority of which the police were on first name terms with, they treated the FC fans with the utmost respect, and seemed to realise that they where merely defending themselves from mindless thugs.
What should have been a memorable day for both clubs has left a nasty taste in my mouth, I sincerely hope the FA take whatever action is necessary to make sure this is not repeated, A football club is only as good as its followers and in this case its scum fans scum club.

"As for the stewards not doing much to intervene, what do you expects from lower league matches!!!"
Well, wherever you go, from the lowest league to the premier league, stewards should still act the same. They have the same job and the same problems and therefore should act accordingly no matter who is employing them. It's disgraceful that you think it's ok they did nothing simply because they were stewarding a lower league game. Would be different if you were caught up in the trouble and nothing was done to help you wouldn't it?

What I thought ironic though were the Fleetwood fans singing songs about being the 'Fleetwood BNP' yet Richard Allen was of mixed race.
I know a lot of FC fans who have said they would think twice before they take their family's to Fleetwood again, but I won't be thinking twice. One thing I am certain of is I wouldn't take my family to Fleetwood again when I can just as easily take them to a ground where the locals are hospitable and the stewards have such an easy life they don't need an incentive to do their job.

When FC come to town it's party time, not fight night. 25% of our fans are kids, a lot of them with their parents. Many are my age (60+). Bound to ba troublemakers then. Do me a favour - don't base an opinion on the only FC game you have ever attended. I just hope we never have to set foot in your six - fingered town again.

Isn't this EXACTLY what the FCUM's have become famous for? Intimdating locals whenever they travel away? Giving it large at clubs with two men and a dog supporting them? I thought this is what football is all about and the reasons why they dereted Manyoo?
You wanted a return to the 70's and that's what you got? The FCUM's have enough grandad-hoolies to remember the 70's so they knew exactly what culture they were helping to create.
The genie is out of the bottle now lads. Get those butcher's coats on, the knee-length cherry docs. You can all dress like the 70's, stand up like the 70's, terrorise like the 70's.
Just not so much fun when someone does it to you, is it?
Mind you, there's always the Premiership if you don't like the 70's...

FC UNITED have never been about starting trouble, if in any doubt about that ask your upper class neighbours in blackpool how we behaved when we took 4000 fans to watch against blackpool mechanics?? not one ounce of trouble before during or after the game and both sets of fans were in the same pubs drinking before and after!
Unlike your inbred excuse for a town they had a bit of class about them and appreciated that their club would make enough money from that game to see them right for the next two or three seasons!!! as is the case for the rest of the clubs we've travelled to, we are not a club looking to set up a firm to do battle with morons like you for the simple reason you haven't got the numbers to make it a fair fight you muppets!!! as for the comments about us intimidating towns everywhere we go, do an internet search on how much trouble our fans are involved in and you won't find anything of worth. until we met the rascist inbred mutant offspring of retarded fisherman from fleetwood that is, how bright are your lot lol?? rascist chants when you have at least two coloured players in your first team!!! they must be so proud to pull on the feetwood shirt for you idiots!! anyway your not worth anymore of my time i've got grown ups to talk to!!
