FC made seven changes from the team which won the club's first-ever FA Cup tie against Trafford on Sunday, including debut appearances for new boys Liam George and Cayne Hanley.
And the weakened side was given a hard battle by the visitors, who are riding high in the southern section of the UniBond League's first division. FC goalkeeper Sam Ashton, with a series of saves, and a spectacular goal-line clearance by Liam Foster kept FC in contention in the first half.
Playing down the slope at Radcliffe's Stainton Park ground, it was the turn of Alsager keeper Matt Conkie to excel and he denied sub Jerome Wright, Simon Carden and Anthony Hargreaves with a string of superb saves.
And in extra time the visitors' gallant resistance paid off when Dave Whittaker smashed home a 108th-minute winner through a crowd of players when the Rebels failed to clear a corner.

That goaline clearance from Foster was unbelievable
I agree about the Alsager support. The promotion from Non-League step 5 to step 4 has seen a marked increase in the level of support from our opponents. With the excellent, good humoured banter at FC games - this can only be a good thing.

The capacity of the ground is 3300 and on police advice this game is to be all ticket. FC United will receive an initial allocation of 1600 tickets although Fleetwood have said they will sell tickets direct to FC United fans from Monday. There will be no admission to the stadium on the day of the game without a valid ticket and (so far) there will be no pay on the day. Prices are: £7 Adults. £4 Concessions. Tickets will be on sale from 11:00am from the ticket office at Gigg Lane before the Harrogate Railway Athletic game this Saturday 8th September 2007. FC United members will be prioritised, sales to members will commence at 11am and will continue up until 1pm, once the members’ queue has been processed tickets will go on general sale. Members are asked to get to the ticket office early so that we can process applications as efficiently as possible. Those members arriving after 1pm will have to join the non-members queue. Members must bring their membership card and proof of address. In the event of any members who have not received their membership card or in the case of any disputes over membership a ticket will be reserved pending confirmation of membership. Members may purchase tickets for fellow members, but must bring membership cards for all those they wish to purchase tickets for. Tickets will then go on general sale from 1:00pm onwards with a maximum of four tickets per person. Postal applications will be taken from members only these must be received at the office by close of business on Friday and processed on Saturday. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that the postal application arrives at the office in good time. Please send a SAE and full remittance to: Tickets, FC United of Manchester, 221 Ducie House, 37 Ducie Street, Manchester, M1 2JW. Members should quote their membership number with postal applications in order to ensure priority. A further announcement will be made should any tickets remain after Saturday. Please note that non-members can still sign-up as members of FC United. Members can also join at the membership stall before home matches at Gigg Lane.
