FC UNITED won themselves a trip to the seaside as they kept on the Wembley trail.

The Rebels beat Trafford 5-2 in a game that was switched to Altrincham's Moss Lane ground to accommodate the 2,250 following.

Simon Carden was switched from midfield to attack and was twice on target along with Josh Howard, a Nicky Platt penalty, and a final goal from substitute Anthony Hargreaves.

Trafford, who are one division below FC United had pulled back to equalise before Platt's spot-kick just before the interval.

The players, bolstered by getting their hands on the FA Cup at training on Thursday, will now take on Fleetwood Town in the first qualifying round on September 15... and it's only another ten victories to get to Wembley!

I was pleased to be part of history yesterday as FC United entered the FA Cup for the first time. The atmosphere was brilliant from start to finish and I would like to think it inspired the lads to this victory. Carden played well in a more forward postion and as ever Howard and Wright contributed well from the wings.

I have to point out some inaccuracies in the above report. Simon Carden only scored one goal - you've missed Rob Nugent (scorer of the first FC United goal) from the list of scorers.

Also, the names of two of our other scorers are Nicky PLATT and ANTHONY Hargreaves.

And I think you'll find it's ELEVEN more victories to Wembley!

Next up, FC UNITED v. ALSAGER TOWN in the Unibond League Challenge Cup on Wednesday 5th September. Our opponents in the league cup play in the new Unibond first division south so this is a rare opportunity to pit ourselves against one of these trams. This tie will be played at Radcliffe Borough's Inn2gether Stadium, Stainton Park, Pilkington Road, Radcliffe, Manchester, M26 3PE. Entrance is pay on the gate £7.50 adults, £5 concessions, £2 U18s.
DIRECTIONS. To the ground BY TRAM. From Manchester Piccadilly or Victoria, join the Metrolink towards Bury. Radcliffe is the next to last stop. From here you are 10 - 15 minutes walk away. Alternatively, call taxi (Domino Cabs 723 4945). Proceed through the car park and go left slightly uphill to traffic lights. About a quarter mile. Turn right and proceed to next lights. About another quarter mile. Go right again uphill, Ainsworth Rd, until you get to the Victoria pub about another quarter of a mile. Go left here past Red Bank playing fields). Stainton Park is at the far end just to your right about 400m.

BY CAR. From the M60 ring road exit Jct 17 at Whitefield. Head towards Whitefield but keep left, then take the bare left at McDonalds & Aldi just after first set of lights about a quarter of a mile. Carry on through two sets of lights until you come to a mini round-about, with a chinese opposite about one mile. Turn left heading down hill. Continue through town centre turning right at the sixth set of lights approx 3 miles. Carry on up hill turning left at Queen Victoria pub. continue until you reach a second mini-round-about 400m. Stainton Park is just on your right. Viva la revolution, come on FC.

For tonights match The Masons Arms Inn Radcliffe is welcoming all FC supporter's pre and post match. There will be traditional Lancashire hotpot on for free and depending on the weather, there will also be a BBQ. Entertainment will be provided by the Irish band from the Rossendale game 'The Ryans'. The band will start between 6.00-6.30pm and will also be playing post match. The inside of the pub can hold up to 80 but depending on the weather the beer garden will also be made available with plenty of benches and two covered area's. There is one smoking shelter for those who still smoke and a Gazebo to be used the band. There is also a slide, swing and see-saw in the beer garden for the kids. The pub is situated on Sion street, down by the side of the 24Hour ASDA. For those that already know and as a reminder, it's where we had the Bonfire in the first season. Transport to the ground is being arranged.
