Lancaster scored on the break, against the run of play in first half stoppage time through Ian Stevens and United spent the second half chasing the game.
Inevitably, the home side again scored from a breakaway with a late effort from Jimmy Love after FC skipper Dave Chadwick had earlier hit the bar from a header.
Jerome Wright got one back straight from kick-off but it was too late and the majority of the 2,257 crowd went home disappointed.
What is your verdict on the game? Have your say.

"I am an FC supporter now. I will promote their message of family oriented football. Grassroots football, where fans actually can afford to attend games with their kids. Players who actually rub elbows with supporters and a club where fans actually have a say about how the club is run."

Karl Marginson said "We are upbeat and positive. It's our first home game and the league isn't won or lost on the first day of the season. Against Lancaster, we prepared right and done all the little things that you should do right, it was just one of those days when we couldn't force a goal." The boss went on to say Wednesday's match would be a different prospect and stressed the importance of a big turn out and a vocal home support at Gigg Lane. "I don't think there was any lack of confidence against Lancaster but certainly having the fans there on Wednesday will be a big boost and it would be great to get three points on the board." Tonight's match gets underway at 7.45pm. Entry is pay on the gate and costs £7.50 for adults, £2 for under 18s and £5 for unwaged and over 60's. Alternatively, you can still pick up your FC United season ticket which works out cheaper than the gate entrance fee at £126 for adults, £21 for juniors and £90 for unwaged and over 60's. That works out at £6 Adults, around £4.29 concessions and £1.00 U18's. Visit www.fc-utd.co.uk for more details.
