The Rebels faced both teams in the North West Counties League last season, putting 14 goals past Atherton in their two fixtures but only squeaking a 1-0 draw at Trafford and being held 4-4 at Gigg Lane. Those two clubs meet in the extra preliminary round on August 18.
And if FC, playing in the competition for the first time, come through the preliminary round, on September 1, they face a big task in the first round qualifying - a trip to play upwardly-mobile Fleetwood Town, who finished fifth in the UniBond League premier division last season after two successive promotions.
Says FC manager Karl Marginson: "It's a good draw for us. Trafford are no pushovers as they showed last season when they came back from 4-1 down with 15 minutes left at our place to draw. They have lost manager Danny Johnson to Ashton United, but one of our former players Tony Coyne has gone there as assistant to Ged Kielty.
"The only problem is we are supposed to have a pre-season friendly against them. We might have to bin that, because we don't want to give them any money to spend on players they can use against us!"
Marginson says there will be minimal comings and goings this summer, the only possible additions being former Radcliffe defender Dave Luker and Salford City's ex-Bolton youth team defender Dale Whitehead.
Meanwhile, a trip into football history awaits FC United in their first FA Trophy campaign, with a preliminary round draw away to one of the world's oldest clubs, Bradford Park Avenue, founded in 1863. A win in that tie, against fellow UniBond first division north opponents, would line up a home game against the oldest club in the world, Sheffield FC.

MANCAT and FC United of Manchester Announce Link
FC United of Manchester and MANCAT are to work together in developing local young football talent.
The new partnership will offer the young people of Greater Manchester an opportunity to develop both their footballing and educational abilities.
MANCAT is holding a Football Training Development Day on Monday 9th July from 4.30-7pm to allow Year 11 pupils the opportunity to sample the college's Sports Academy before the new academic year starts in September.
Those who attend the event will also have the chance to impress FC United scouts, as representatives from the club will be watching the session hoping to catch an early glimpse of the talented young players who plan to join MANCAT's Sports Academy in September.
The Sports Academy is exclusively open to MANCAT's sixth form students and provides them with expert football coaching and the opportunity to play in a successful college team whilst studying on a full-time course.
MANCAT's link with FC United will give its highly talented Sports Academy students the chance of progressing into the FC United's own youth team.
Any players interested in going to the Football Training Development Day at the Nicholls Community Football Centre of Excellence in Ardwick should call the MANCAT Schools Liaison Team now on 0161 953 2267 for an application form.
In welcoming the partnership FC United's General Manager Andy Walsh said
'Both FC United and MANCAT are committed to working across all the communities of Greater Manchester to improve the quality of sports coaching and education. Our coaches will be working with MANCAT staff to develop individual coaching development plans for both coaches and players.'
FC United will continue to compete in the North West Youth Alliance with the MANCAT/FC United team competing in the National Youth Conference Football League.
Plans to develop the relationship further in the longer term include a women's team and opportunities volunteers to gain qualifications.
