More movement on Reds shares

MANCHESTER United today announced a significant number of their plc's shares have been traded.

The Old Trafford club announced to the Stock Exchange this morning that Legal & General Group "and/or its subsidiaries" have acquired over eight million shares, a stake of 3.11%.

United have been beset by takeover rumours in recent months with the likes of racing tycoons John Magnier and JP McManus and American football supremo Malcolm Glazer increasing their stakes.

Further movement of shares, especially in the light of a row between McManus and Magnier, and manager Sir Alex Ferguson over racehorse Rock of Gibraltar, is likely to heighten that talk.

United's share price rose markedly immediately before and after the announcement.

Is it correct that Rock of Gib, was only one of 5 horses alex had a half share in, the problem arose because the Rock was a winner and they did not expect that.

Rock of G. was a good horse as a 2 year old and won a few races but was also beaten a few times. At the same time A. O Brien/ Coolmore had a another horse called Hawk Wing who was rated as the far better prospect and was unbeaten (I think!) It was around this time that Fergie was given d half share. It wasnt till d next season that Rock Of G came to promence when it actually beat Hawk Wing in one of d classics(group 1's) and it was this win that was start of the now famous 7 consectutive group 1 wins.
The funniest thing about d whole thing is that theres a 70-80% chance that d Rocks offspring will turn out to be useless!!! The stats show the majority of top grade winners never sire a winner themselves.

Not sure if it is true about him having shares in other horses but you can bet that if they had any idea what R.O.G would go onto do they wouldn't have given half shares to there own mothers never mind AF.
Anyhow bring on the FA cup derby at least it should mean that we are on the back page of the newspaper for footballing reasons for a change and a derby cup game should be something special.
