Tim a Red for keeps, says Mo

TIM Howard's former team-mate believes the American will prove to be just as big a signing for Manchester United as Peter Schmeichel.

Former Rangers and Celtic star Mo Johnston, who worked with Howard in his role as coach of the New York/New Jersey Metrostars, is confident the keeper will be at Old Trafford for several years.

"I knew when Ferguson signed him that he would go straight into their first team," said Johnston.

"For years United have found it hard to get a genuine successor to Schmeichel, but now they have come up with one.

"Fergie has got himself a real gem. Tim has great agility, which is important, quick feet, which you need for the English game, and he's going to be around for years.

"He's going to be first choice for a very long time to come. He's definitely the man to fill Schmeichel's shoes and will really take some dislodging.

"Tony Coton really did his homework properly. United came across and had a good look at Tim. We all tune in to see him playing every week and are all extremely proud of him. He is still very much in our thoughts.

"He's a top-class guy, a great learner and a wonderful keeper who will go on to be one of the world's best."

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Howard will turn out to be the best signing in Europe this year. Esspecially when you see how much of a bargain price they got him for compaired to other keepers, like FB.

Bartez was also excellent in his first year. Hope Tim will keep up and improve his standard. But its already amazing that he can pass the tests in the Away games with Rangers and Liverpool

To compare Howard with Barthez is insulting. Howard cares about the team first, improving and most importantly WINNING. Barthez is the perfect example of a decent keeper, playing in the right situations, for the best teams, at the right times. Above avergae...at best.
