The Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira made an astonishing claim last night that Manchester United won the Premiership title while, at times, playing "rubbish football".
The Highbury captain has followed his manager Ars'ne Wenger in insisting that Cup finalists Arsenal, and not United, are the best team in England despite the fact that they missed out on retaining the championship.
"I have seen Manchester United so many times on the television this season and they were playing really poor football, really rubbish," said Vieira. "But United have this or that player who comes up with a trick, they score a goal and then they win one-nil or two-nil. I think that was the difference this season."
And the French international added: "Arsenal are the better team. In fact, there is no doubt that we are the best football team in England. Arsenal play fantastic football but what has been shown is that playing fantastic football is not enough."
