A PLACE in Old Trafford's hall of fame could prove the decisive factor in United's battle to keep Cristiano Ronaldo.
Reds assistant manager Carlos Queiroz believes becoming a United legend can dispel the temptations of Spain.
La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid appear to have the Spanish media on board in efforts to unsettle United's 22-year-old winger.
But Queiroz is hitting back in the war.
"Very soon Cristiano could become the symbol of Manchester United," said Sir Alex Ferguson's sidekick.
"The ideal club for him is Manchester United. There is no reason for him to leave the club because he knows that United is the best club in the world.
"At this time, no club in the world has someone playing so consistently or at the level at which Cristiano Ronaldo is in every game.
"It is not just lip-service to call him one of the best in the world and the individual awards will start to arrive shortly."
Queiroz himself had a bitter and unsuccessful 10-month period as coach at Real Madrid after helping United to the Premiership title in 2003, his debut campaign at Old Trafford as Fergie's No 2.
And he has warned Ronaldo that life at the Bernabeu isn't all it's cracked up to be.
"I have been at Real Madrid and I know the reality of the club," he added.
"Cristiano is part of the United family and if he stays then he will become a symbol of the whole club.
"This is the best Manchester United in recent years and we are where we want to be, a step from becoming champions."
Which club do you think has the biggest pull in world football? Have your say.

Yes, Barcelona and Real are both great teams too, but so is UNITED. We also have history, we have also had GREAT players, and this is what tradition and class is based on. Yes, Rijkaard has done wonders at Barca, but hey....what Fergie has put together and what is gelling right now, is simply downright fabulous and I really don't give a RATS a:ss what people say about Wenger and his young brats.
I have lost a lot of respect for Wenger and his lot.
As far as I am concerned Fergie's acheivements, and what he is building and seeing the fruits of now, should be lauded across the land, and people should stand up and applaud the man.
Yet again he has slowly and methodically put together an AWESOME team.
And all peopple can do is speculate and push to ruin it by constantly poking at Ronaldo. 'Where does he want to go?' says one paper..'The lad wants to go', says another paper.
WHY????...the weather? Oh comon..he can jet down to the Med with his pals whenever he wants to, but playing for Manchester United is where its at.
Once Hargreaves comes over in the summer, Ronaldo will not want to go anywhere, beccause he will know that United is where key players want to play.
Carrick destroyed Spurs' midfield by wanting to come to United. He absolutely RUINED Spurs by joining United. Ronaldo should take that into account, how hungry players are to want to come here.
Plus, Larsson should have a word in his ear.
He's been there, done that. Played alongside Etoo, Deco, Ronaldinhol....yet he left, when Barca STILLWANTED HIM!!!!!
Then he joined United.....why? Cause we're GREAT.

Thats legends for you.

Maybe we should recruit Figo to the coaching staff. Not only could he teach a thing or two but I'm sure that would keep Ronnie put more than CQ. Slightly worried by the comments from CQ which seem to infer that the rest of the squad are just there as support for Ronnie - Can't see that pleasing the other big names.

As to Ronaldo leaving for Spain, considering his contract expires in 2010, he can only go with the clubs agreement. So until 2009, you will not be pressed for sale, having the risk of him leaving on a free in 2010.
Manchester United is a big club, one of the top 5 for sure in the World, but I can see the interest of a player proving himself in different clubs and leagues.
I hope you can understand that there is life outside your island, and names like Best, Scholes or Giggs are not very well Knowed here, except of course for football fanatics like me.
I disagree with the way most of you, and other club fans, seem to hate players who leave to sign for other clubs. For most of the fans here, if the player has done well here and proved to be a good professional and worked hard, we treat him well even when or after he leaves.
You demand loyalty but if you are not happy with a player you send him packing so...
As I see it Ronaldo should listen and show respect to Ferguson, the person who bet on him always, but hes not obliged to accept a new deal if its not what he wants. For players football is not just a game its their future, and its difficult do refuse a huge offer, and the chance to prove himself elsewere.
But its probable he will stay, at least 1 or 2 more years, or more who knows. Good luck and enjoy his play, you have the jealousy of millions right now.

Portuguese is derived from Latin, much the same as Spanish, French and Italian. It's not a Spanish hybrid. As a scholar of the Latin languages, I scoff at your braindead comment. Ronaldo should stay in MU. He is part of a growing team, where he knows the game and culture and team mates. He is the best player in the world at the moment, but form is only as good as your last game, as Ronaldinho found. Madrid is not the place for any emerging starlet to go - to many chiefs and not enough indians. Barca are going the way that Madrid went, by buying the best flair players, and not building a proper team. Italy is currently a poor league, so MU it is then. Decided. Top notch. See you next season you big winker.

Rooney, poor boy, has been hyped out of this worldly earth. Thatâ€TMs what the English media do well. Rooney is a good player, but not consistent enough to be best in the world. He may prove me wrong one day, but this season, and in parts of the last season, his performances were poor. He can find himself locked out of matches. I would rather have Ronaldo in my team, because he is getting better, Rooney has not improved since his goal against Arsenal 4 years ago. Let Rooney improve without the pressure, and maybe England can unearth a decent player for once.
As with the comments about Figo not being a legend, he is a legend in Real and a legendary villain in Barca, so youâ€TMre wrong.
