TOUGH BREAK: Edwin van der Sar trudges off at Tottenham

UNITED keeper Edwin van der Sar expects to be back in action within a fortnight.

Van der Sar broke his nose in a hefty collision with Tottenham's Robbie Keane during United's 4-0 win at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

The giant Dutchman, who has just signed a one-year extension to his Reds contract after impressing in the 18 months he has spent at Old Trafford since moving north from Fulham, was briefly knocked unconscious and spent the night in hospital on doctor's advice.

However, on his personal website, he has also confirmed the overall damage is not too serious and he expects to be back doing physical training by the end of the week, with a return to first-team duty planned within two weeks.

It means Polish international Tomasz Kuszczak will take over for Saturday's Premiership encounter with Charlton and almost certainly keep his place for the FA Cup fifth round tie against Reading on February 17.

Van der Sar should be back in time for the Champions League trip to Lille three days later.

Give him a few more games this season to keep him fit for being on the bench next year. I saw Foster for the first time last night and I have no doubt that he is already better than VDS has ever been. To not have Foster as our first choice goalie next season would be a crime!

To my humble opinion, Van Der Sar is very important in Man U's squad. His prominent saves and confidence cannot be over emphasized. He is not just van der Sar: he is van der SAVE. He is one of the best elements behind Man U's success this season.

He's as important to MU as cech is to Chelsea (and you can see what's happened there). The difference is that the master manager had sufficient foresight to get a class back up before the season started, despite all the knockers scoffing at him buying a goalkeeper instead of filling some other perceived (they thought at the time) defficiencies! at least we have good cover!

We certainly need him fit by the L/pool game. I'm not convinved by Kuszczak and still not sure if he is on loan to us or permanent. Foster will be #2 when he returns next season and I hear Luke Steele is doing well for Coventry.

yh van der sar is class
but y didnt we buy him in 99 or 2001 - because we got to useless lots in bosnich and barthez, van der sar isnt getting enough praise though he is a top class keeper and proved that at fulham on saturday
