Solskjaer hails Larsson achievement

OLE Gunnar Solskjaer is in no doubt that in Henrik Larsson Manchester United have signed the finest Scandinavian footballer of his generation.

United were indebted to Norwegian Solskjaer for the late winner on Sunday, after Swedish striker Larsson had marked his debut with the opening goal against Aston Villa in the FA Cup third round.

But Old Trafford evergreen forward Solskjaer does not even hint he is in the same bracket as his new team-mate.

"Henrik Larsson is the best player we have had in Scandinavia since Michael Laudrup," he told Aftenposten.

"He continues to get better, and it was important for the manager to see what kind of shape he was in because he hadn't played for a while.

"I do not think he was disappointed."

There are already calls for United to extend Larsson's loan deal beyond March until the end of the season, and his club Helsingborg have indicated they could be willing to negotiate.

Come on, Ole. You know as well as I do that the finest Scandinavian players of this generation picked up the European Cup at Camp Nou in '99...

Henrik Larsson or Henry Clarkson as others are calling him, shall be a revelation for us this season but I would rather we kept him for the end of it or at least until a stage where we have fully utilised his skills and presence. His touch was great and you could see it rub into Rooney. Saha is the man there too and so I see EVS, Brown, Vida, Ferdinand, Evra, Ronaldo, Scholes, Rooney, Giggs, Saha, Larsson as one possible line-up with Super-sub 20Legend waiting on the bench. And if we get that youngster Bale from Southampton, let us cash-in on Heinze.

Ole is a legend, and its nice to see such a modest footballer in this day and age

Will be a sad day when Ole does hang up his boots, but he will become a great ambassador for the club

WERE really great players now both in their twilight - the Premiership/Champions league is no place for sentimental selections - Ole and Larsson have one season left. We need to buy for the future and leave the teary eyes to the past.

Ole has never said a negative thing about or to anyone. But then, I have never heard him speak about Kieran, O'Shea, or Fletcher...

Further to my last letter regarding Solskjaer I think he is as good as Larsson in every respect. Look at his past achievements. And who helped to win the treble in 199o's. Give him more rope while he is at his best. Perhaps your Fergie should listen to an old fogey.
