REAL Madrid manager Fabio Capello claims he was approached to be the new coach at Manchester United when Sir Alex Ferguson revealed he planned to retire.
Ferguson announced he would be leaving Old Trafford six years ago but then decided to stay.
"They made contact," Capello told FourFourTwo magazine.
He also admitted he was urged to apply for the England job.
The former Juve boss added: "I was very close to England. I was asked some time ago, before they chose (Sven-Goran) Eriksson to go for the England job."

Call me cynical, but it's now history!
I respect Mr Capello for what he's acheived but I am not all to sure that a leopard could change it's coat!
He is Italian (a cool one!), however if I am correct cattenaccio is all they know!!
Dull, and negative most times!..but hey. respect man!
