SIR Alex Ferguson wants Giuseppe Rossi to help in United's title push.
Rossi has just returned from a loan spell at Newcastle and there was speculation that he had booked a return ticket to the North East to link up with Roy Keane at Sunderland.
And although Rossi's team-mates Phil Bardsley and Jonny Evans are set to join the Black Cats, the Italy Under-21 striker will remain at Old Trafford.
"I don't see why we should let anyone go who is going to be useful to us," said Ferguson.
Pitfalls
"The run-in could be full of all sorts of pitfalls. We want to be prepared for it and we want to be able to handle it all, so it is good to get Giuseppe back.
"He has great talent, which is why we let him go to Newcastle. And even though he did not have a lot of games, he still comes back to us with a bit more experience and a bit of quality."
Rossi's return, coupled with the arrival of Henrik Larsson, who will make his debut in next Sunday's FA Cup tie with Aston Villa, has bolstered United's striking options considerably.
In addition though, Ferguson has received a major bonus in the contribution of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who scored his seventh goal of the campaign against Wigan on Boxing Day and continues to delight the fans.
"Ole is a 100 per cent bonus for us this season," said Ferguson. "He is just a great professional."
Do you think Rossi has a first-team future at United? Have your say.

Ferguson obviously had the best intentions sending Rossi out but it's proved pointless. This lad was the dogs on this forum last season but I've been surprised to read a number of negatives about him this season. I wont pretend I've seen enough but either way it shouldn't prevent a move for a big strong CF like Torres who is the real deal IMO. I doubt any move in January hence Larsson who could be inspired or a damp squib but this is where Ferguson's judgement will be on show.
I just can't see Rossi and Rooney playing together as our front two. But what about Rooney as our long-term replacement for Scholes? I don't think Carrick is good enough for the job but Rooney's all-round game is great. It might work if we pair him with a disciplined defensive midfielder and it might allow Rossi a place in the team.
besides fernando torres we are also now linked with the panamanian gabriel torres...another young highly rated striker. add them to rossi...i'd rather have too many options than not enough...hargreaves and nani in january?
Absolutly. I can see him playing behind one striker or as an attacking midfielder in front of Owen Hargreaves. Seriously, Am I the only one that thinks Rooney is fading? I honestly think that he is just a average player these days. Maby because Ronaldo is playing so well.
Thomas, Norway, Rossi will be good playing alongside Hargreaves, what good attacking options we will have then with Roy Maakay and Claudio Pizzaro alongside him!!!!!!! Hargreaves plays for Bayern not Man Utd so dont comment on who he aint gonna play with state that when we have bought him!
Great news, he absolutely deserves to have a chance alongside experienced players like Ole and Larsson. Watch out and learn all young MU strikeforce how clinical are Skandinavians
MU for life...go go
No, rossi`s not good enough for us, simply as that! When you play for Man Utd you have take your chances straight away, otherwise you end up like Forlan, even when he eventually started scoring, he was always worried about the next drought. Rossi is great at reserve team football, but the step up is to much. Sorry.
Yes , Rossi has a great chance. we need him!
He will do really well I am sure. He is a great prospect for the future.
Happy 2007 to all my fellow reds everywhere and everyone at MEN.
I hope it brings you all everything you wish for.

After seeing the DREDED performance of the young man my Wayne Roony against Newcastle, I can only speculate that buying a donkey as a striker would be a better option and better value for money.
Just why Ryan gigs is the corner taker and free kicker by choice is absolutely astounding and one that proved a major flaw in Ferguson¿sup>TMs choice against Newcastle on new year¿sup>TMs day.
Ryan for all of his so called talent never once delivered the ball to an unmarked player from the corners.
His free kick towards the end that is now entering earths orbit was the worst waste of a shoot at goal I have ever seen.
Without Saha and Ronaldo united will have no chance of keeping the Chelsea from gaining top spot by February.
Rossi I hope will also bring to the side some accurate passing, something that was lacking in abundance on new years day by all the so called a team united stars.
Rossi and Dong they are both good.
The question you have to ask is why was Roeder so reluctant to play Rossi? He obviously brought Rossi into the squad with the intention of playing him but for one reason or another it didn't work out so can Rossi do it for us? I certainly hope so because the lad is undoubtedly very talented but maybe the first team is a step too far for him, time will tell I guess.
Chris just asked the most important question. The answer, I think (ok, hope!) is that Roeder likes to play a "little and large" combo up front and, having paid a fortune for Martins, a player with established pedigree, it became impossible for Rossi to force his way in as the "little" half of the partnership. I really hope his confidence isn't shot, because it must have been difficult to be over-looked for a journey-man like Sibierski. One thing's for certain, there's been too many good things said about Rossi from people who know a lot about football (not least Zola and Fergie himself) for him to have anything other than a good chance of making it. And, in my own opinion, from watching him play for our reserves, I really think he is a bit special. But time will tell.
Rossi is a fantastic player.
From what I saw yesterday the quality at UNITED is far superior than Newcastle.Rossi could possibly oust Park or Giggs from the team.Yesterday UNITED should've had a hatful and if Giggs,Rooney and Park keep spurning chances then someone who will take a chance will come into the team. We're actually playing for the EPL title and we should shoot like we mean business;on target and with power. On a more positive note the team is playing some very attractive football. The ruthless edge is needed!
mick dublin fergie keeps telling us that fletch is a good un as well. i do think that rossi needs a run in the team for us to make a proper judgement on him but not another 125 game trial like our favourite scotsman
Rossi has proved beyond doubt at Newcastle, he will not make the grade at premiership level. A guy a small as Rossi doesnt have to be good to play in the prem, he has to have either exceptional strength, pace or skill, or all 3. Rossi is a good little player, but is not EXCEPTIONAL in any way. If you're built like Emile Heskey you can afford to be a bit rank in some areas, not if you're a Rossi. He will be of little use to us now we're out of the Carling Cup. He may get a game in the FA Cup and good luck to him, because the prem is our target this year. Up the VILLA!
khaled - Rossi has not proved anything of the sort at Newcastle, he was never given the chance to show what he could do cos Roeder can't drop his big buy Martins (as mentioned below).
The lad has scored hatfuls of goals (13 times in his first 19 starts, then 30 in 30 last season) in the reserves and 4 in 12 games in the PL last year, that's much better than loads of strikers we've had before, so I'm looking forward to seeing a bit more of him this year.
Dont remember george best being much more than 5"7" and built like a whippet; if your good enough your big enough; give the lad a chance he aint had that and fletcher continueas to unimpress everyone except the manager!!!
Roeders is a clueless coach. He had not idea how to use Rossi.Contrary to what Khaled Mahmood siad.Rossi proved that he belongs in the premiership with four excellent performances of 9o minutes. He was playing well when Roeders decided to use Ameobi (at Man. City) and sent Rossi in the directors box. At that time Ameobi was injured and couldn't even walk. The genius of Roeders decided to use Ameobi and he later was proved what a stupid decision he made.Khaled, did you ever see Rossi play the full 90'?I don't think so. For those that insists that to be a football player you must be tall and strong i can only say that to be a footbaler you need skill and football intelligence and pace.Rossi has all the qualities to become a great player .All he needs is a chance.
Rossi is a quality player....will he fit in at Utd. ...remains to be seen. I hope he gets a fair chance with a decent run in.
Spirit of Keano
I meant up the VILLA against Chelsea last night. Not against us (just so you dont get all mixed up Mary).
Rossis a great player with a big future at United. He has bags of class. The natural progression will be for him to replace Ole over the next couple of years. I don't worry about his size either. As Ole has shown and Larsson on Sunday also, you don't have to be big to score goals. Rossi is very clever and has lightening quick feet and is a great finisher. I just hope he gets some games in the next few months.
Yes Bardsley is a mile better than Neville and he has sent him to Villa.
why is saf holding rossi back?he should be given the chance now.he has much more talent than saha ans ole
