BAYERN Munich should sell Owen Hargreaves to United if the Reds bid é20m, according to one former Germany international.

The German giants have so far resisted Sir Alex Ferguson's overtures for the England star, even though the player has expressed his wish to leave.

However, Gunther Netzer, who also played for Real Madrid in the 1970s, told Bild: "It was correct of Uli Hoeness and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge that they decided to keep Hargreaves."

He added: "They pointed out their expectations to the player and called in his loyalty.

"Now the conditions have changed.

"Manchester United have again increased [their bid].

"If the sum of é30 million is really true, I can only say: Now they must sell Hargreaves!

"Because he's not of that value and, secondly, they could buy an alternative player.

"Because it is clear - Hargreaves is a good and important player for Bayern.

"But he is completely and surely not worth é30 million."

How is he not worth 20mil? As a bench mark If Carrick is worth 18.6 i would definately value Hargreaves around the 20mil mark....Come on United lets get our man for a change!!

JP, Hull Carrick cost 14m and we paid over the odds for him. This is because he is English plays in the Prem and we're man united. Hargreaves should cost no more then 12m but as we are man united he will cost 20m its just the way it is

He's worth whatever it takes to win the title back, he's an excellent player who will improve our squad and also give us a better chance in the C/L due to his experience.

I think it's a total cop out to bleat we have to pay well over the odds cos we're MU. We've won nothing significant for 3yrs thanks mainly to a sub standard midfield. Why wasn't OH snatched 12 months ago at a fraction of what he'll now cost if Alex has rated him for so long as he claims? It's totally unrealistic given the Glazers situation to keep getting mugged on transfers.

I echo the comments to a degree. Spend the money and get the player we need. It matters not how much other players cost, that should not be a factor. We spent what we needed to get Rooney, we spent what we needed to get Carrick, or Saha, or whoever, because we felt they would help us win, so I say, spend it.

How does he know how much we have bidded, or that we have made a new bid? I wonder if something is happening behind he scenes right now involving Hargreaves. However he isn't too wrong about him not being worth Â£20 million. A year ago no one would have dreamed Hargreaves would have cost that much. What we do know is that he is a quality player and one that would really strengthen our squad. If there is a chance of a deal being done then hopefully David Gill will handle it. If any deal is done I think it could be worth up to Â£20 million, depending on success in the League and Europe. Carrick deal was actually around Â£14 million but could rise to Â£18 million if we achieve that level of success.

If we only have 20-25m to spend in January and in the summer then it's crazy to spend 20m on OH. Ahead of next season, we need a left winger and a striker as well so let's go for Frings or Makoun for 10m and Nani for 10-12m. Carrick was overpriced at 14-18m and OH at 20m is also way too much. I support the idea of buying British but we have so many players to replace in the coming years so we must spend wisely.

Yeah Carrick could cost 18.6m but that means we would have won the CL and the league meaning the difference becomes irrelevant due to prize money and other add ons. Fact is we have paid 14m (though probably in 2 tranches) and that is still a lot, though I think he will prove an excellent addition and ultimately good value. Would be very cautious about spending 20m on Hargreaves until it is known how he recovers from injury - and that is too high anyway. Given Real Madrid and Chelsea screwing the market up as per normal given their lack of financial responsibility if we can get him for 13-15m in the summer I will be happy enough. Would be more concerned spending 30m on Torres as he might not make the transition to Manchester well and he is not a prolific striker anyway. Huntelaar for half that maybe, but is he ready for the premiership?

I would play it cool, BM are one of the worlds biggest, can you imagine if one of our players went out publicly and repeated that they were looking for a move, Utd would not tolerate it and neither will BM. OH Will be on his way sooner or later, we were smart by not being mugged in the summer and II think we will get him for 12 mil now in Jan or next summer, which is a fair price.

Steve if Chelsea go in for a player we all know they will pay over the odds. Although we dont have the same sort of money but the fact is it still happens to us

He is the player we need, if we have to pay 20 million so be it, he is one of the best centre midfield players in the world and can handle Chelsea later on in the season with him in the side, without him I doubt it.

I think we should stop thinking about Owen until the summer at least. I want more buzz around Old Trafford and the return of DAVID BECKHAM is what I can see as the most attractive move for me this january. We donÂ´t need more strikers until the summer. Rossi will score if given the chance.

So are the Chelsea fans getting their knickers in a twist over 20 million for an 18 year old right back from City. Not a chance. They need him and will pay over the odds to get him and City will fold. We need Hargreaves or someone like him so if it's 20 million then so be it. We also need a pacy left winger so let's go out and get him. The money we spend, we will get back in spades. Don't forget we have four players who will bring in enough for the winger while allowing room on the bench for a couple of kids. Sly, Smith, Richardson and JOS are expendable. Let them go and get regular games elsewhere.

HO HO HO, no gifts from Santa then, has Fergie been a bad boy? What we need are 3 kings bearing gifts then, well in our case 3 Glazers! 20 mill is well expensive for OH but , as has been said, if we win the PL that will be forgotton. For me the whole point of the Jan window is to buy players that will help improve the team for the second half of THIS season and not players for the future. 20 mill can buy a lot of players that could boost our midfield now more than the recovering OH. Let's see someone who can do a job covering for Carrick and Scholes for 6 months and not someone who will have a team bulit around him next season.

I think 30 Million euros is to much money, If chelsea were not around with there millions the fee would be a lot lower, Hargreaves is a good player but we could get Joey Barton for ¿¿5.5 Million.

I don't suppose it actually helps the club when people speculate a player is worth 20mil,30mil etc. Abromichalbion,the Chelski boss has billions to throw in the bin a la Schevchenko. I think the Carrick deal proved to be a fair valuation in the end.When fit Carrick makes the XI.OH is suited to UNITED's play and everyone thinks he'd be a great player to join us.We can survive without him.It's up to BM.

There is no way United should pay Â£20 million for Hargreaves.

He is a Â£10-Â£12 million pound player at best.

If we intend to spend that kind of money on a midfielder, then I would much prefer to see it spent on Joey Barton and Mikel Arteta, who would cost a combined fee of around Â£18 million, and also have them available to play in Europe, which Hargreaves isn't, plus he hasn't kicked a ball for 4 months. What good will he be to us for the remainder of the season?

Right you are Frank. Spot on.2 CM in January is the right thing for us, and we should be able to pick up a couple for less than 20 mill, and then think about OH for the summer. We also need a left sided player, I like Pederson at Blackburn, and for CM I would look to the likes of Reo-Coker, Nolan, and yes even Barton. But, unfortunately, I still have serious doubts that this club will do anything in January. We are now starting to hear it(yet again)..." happy with the squad we've got etc etc". Overall, our squad is just not strong enough after the 1st XI, how is it that just about everyone else can see it but not SAF & the owners? There's non so blind as those that will not see.

buy him for anything up to $20 mill. We need a player like Hargreaves and if we aren't spending on anyone else this January there is no problem splashing out on him. I always say that if you're going to buy quality, and in this case English quality, you're going to have to pay over the odds. It's the way football is these days.

Right on!! Fredrik, Sweden...20-25 mil gets us some experience, variety and depth of talent in numbers...OH is one overated player and we need more quality in depth with options...Nani would be great...Makoun superb, don't wait Fergie ..."get er dunn"!!! Senna, Mascharano, Frings ...you pickem!!
