GOLDEN BOOT: Miroslav Klose

UNITED'S quest for extra long-term firepower means Sir Alex Ferguson could check out World Cup golden boot winner Miroslav Klose.

The German hitman, top scorer with five goals in the tournament this summer, wants to play in the Premiership.

The 28-year-old, whose contract with Werder Bremen expires in 2008, was bought by the Bundesliga outfit from Kaiserslautern two years ago for a fee of around é3.5m

He would cost around double that amount should he leave.

United have Henrik Larsson on a mid-term loan deal, but the Reds are sure to be in business next summer for a permanent attacking option.

"I would only consider five clubs," said Klose, previously linked to Old Trafford, Newcastle, Barcelona and Juventus.

"I follow almost all leagues and I know that I could play anywhere. I would find my feet with the physical approach in England, with the discipline in Italy or the technical Spanish league.

"It would be interesting to make a change, but I also know that I am already at a big club and what I can still achieve with Werder.''

He can gives us something different up front. He is strong in air and his link up play is very good.
He is also a natural goal poacher but he is incredibly slow. The latter bit reminds me of someone!

Now were talking buisniss. My favourite choice for the nr 10 shirt. The best stiker out there suited to play our type of attacking football. But the prize will be around 12 mill instead of 7 mill.

Maybe not a bad shout depending on what the price would turn out to be. I thought he was older than 28 so never been too keen but at that age we could get 3 or 4 good seasons out of him.

¿¿7 milllion is not a bad price and at 28 I guess he is at his peak. He has always scored in World Cups which is an achievement, and has a great record for Weder Bremen. However he might be like Nistelrooy and too slow for our system. I mean look at Shevchenko at Chelsea, he doesn't fit the way they play. Klose may struggle at this stage of his career to adapt to english football, and may be more suited to a slower pace game in Spain or Italy.

well what can i say init. He is slow and old init, and i fink we need younger players with pace and hunger. If we buy hargreaves for crazy money based on 2 good games for england and alter our success mid partnership of carrick and scholes, we are crazy. There are only 2 players i would buy, defoe and lennon init. You know what im saying init?

Wouldnt be particularly keen on this guy. He's good but not the most mobile. He's scored at international level alright, but i dont think he would fit in with pace Utd like to play at. Plus if he's 28 now then he'll probably be 29 when we get him. I'd rather be signing someone younger who is on the up. Also i dont like players touting themselves for a move and Klose seems to be throwing his hat into every ring, including covering his back with his own club Werder. Lets go for someone with a bit of youth on his side. We already have VDS, Neville, Scholes and Giggs with experience but only Rooney and Ronaldo who are young and still to reach their peak

I would say NO we dont need Klose. Too old, too slow and wouldnt fit in to our style of play, I mean he's only a couple years longer then Ruud, not much of a replacement. I think we should be looking at a striker for the future who could build with Rooney and Ronaldo, soemeone like Torres, Bent, Huntelaar or Defoe. We DONT need another striker till the summer tho. If no players leave in Jan we will have 7 strikers. I believe we will only splash out on nessecary signings and with most of them not available till the summer I cant think who there is. Maybe Reo-Coker but is it worth buying him in Jan and missing out on the chance of Hargreaves in the summer? Likewise why by a striker when we have Larrson now. I cant think of who is available anyone got any GOOD ideas?

Defiantly not a good option, United need someone who is strong, fast and a good finisher. If we had a beckham type player then maybe but with our current style of play a big no no for me. Come on Glazers ¿¿oeshow us the money¿¿¿ and buy Torres

erm 7 Mio pounds are rediculous!!! Of course being a Werder Bremen Fan I am not happy to see him leaving - but ManU would be ok - I guess with all Werder Fans. But ManU will be required to put more cash (15 - 20 Mio) on the table.

Naturally United are going to be on the look out for an eighth first team striker :). Cannot see it this being true and even if it is then the summer is the correct place for this one. Bayern have stated today they may listen to offers for O.H. but only in the summer because of the CL. That gives Gill the perfect excuse to tell us all the 'money is there if needed' but his hand are tied. TBH I would gladly take just one cheap cm signing for Jan and if United have been trying to hijack that Manuel Fernandes deal as many seem to think that is our best bet. KR and MS of course also going out to balance the comings and goings.

TMUF: Have you seen Bent play recently? Poor first touch, his finishing is eratic and passing non existent. For me the only choice is Huntelaar because of his age and goals scored, really not sure about Torres mainly because of the cost which we need to spend elsewhere. I cant believe we are actually in the market for a striker this January considering the players we have coming back from injury/loan - midfield has to be addressed at some point or are we going to spend the next 9 months asking WTF is going on?

Can`t believe some people think Klose is too slow. Did you really saw him playing???? He ist really fast, a good finisher, has a phenomenal header and a great team spirit! U can`t compare him with that other boring geman boy at chelski. He would do a great job at United und would have no problem with the speed at the premier league, as Werder Bremen is the most speedfull and attacking team in Germany und one of them in whole europe. As a Werder-Fan I see him every week, and if he leaves Werder I hope its for United

Torres in January or in summer is the best option. Unless Klose is brought on as a fourth striker. Cause mark my words we won't challenge for any honours with Solsksjaer, a nothing-special like Smith and untried novices like Rossi and Dong.

chris, oxford true he hasnt looked good in recent matches, but thats because he's playing for Charlton. You might say great players are ones that can make that difference, but if you look at Charlton, there players arent that bad. There confidence is awful. Form is temporary, class is permanent. Bent is a quality player with great potential IMO, I am sure with the amount of chances we create he would score at least 20 a season. HAvent seen much of hunteleer but heard of his quality so not going to jump on the bandwagon based on newspaper articles

I heard we are going to sign Beckham. He is to bring half the Real Madrid squad with him. There's been a players revolt and they all want to join the Prem. Most want to be United players. Well actually I made that up. Well why should MEN have all the fun with these so klose tales. I can just imagine Ed and Co sat there drinking the bosses brandy laughing their carols off.
