Summer shopping list for Fergie

UNITED'S summer transfer kitty remains untouched with just 35 days to go to the Reds' Premiership opener against Fulham.

é3m is destined to end up in West Brom's bank account for Polish keeper Tomasz Kuszczak but Old Trafford fans are anxious to see the Glazers' till ringing to secure Sir Alex Ferguson's priority targets.

A weak midfield department remains the area that Fergie wants to strengthen and is the cause of fans' restlessness as they know it is a major operation to repair the loss of Roy Keane.

Cristiano Ronaldo's possible defection will also leave a gap to fill in the attacking side of the Reds' engine-room. The fall-out from the Ruud van Nistelrooy end-of-season collision with Ferguson has forced the Dutchman to ask to go, leaving a 25-goals-a-season cert to be replaced.

The Italian match-fixing scandal has thrown up names that would have been unavailable prior to the corruption scandal exploding in Serie A in May.

It has changed the make-up of transfer business all over Europe.

So, who are United's potential imports as the countdown to the season ticks away?

Here, M.E.N. Sport's reporter Stuart Mathieson takes a look at Fergie's possible shopping list.

This is not even a story. Come on Ed, you have got to give us something better than this. It's what we have been going on about for weeks.

Their is nothing to say everbody is restless with the speculations. Their is only one thing to say if we do not buy anyone that means that our once great club has given up on the Champions leauge, Premiership and now resides and is happy with being runner up and happy to go out in the early rounds in the champions leauge. So what is going on do we have the cash or not. So why would the current buy the club if they had no intention of buying any players the buisness plan can not work with out investing in the team. I have no answers i am tired of being glued to the internet checking every source checking all sites and nothing yet not even a pin has dropped and everybody at united thinks everthing is ok.God bless united

do we trust this guy anylonger to spend our money in the last 6 years for every good signing we have made there has been a bad one and therefore there is every chance that a couple of duffers will be arriving soon

the team should play a 3-1-3-1-2 formation next season. van der sar in goal, ferdinand, heinze & vidic central defenders, gattuso covering in front of defence, three midfielders- giggs, ronaldo, scholes & in front of midfield, rooney making goals for saha & podolski. in reserve, still we have neville, brown (defence), viera, smith,(mid) & rossi, ole(attack)

My dream is for Mascerano/Diarra & Riquelme & Torres. I realise there's little hope of them but when Gill talked big in January didn't we have a right to expect this quality? Beware of the Scousers & Arsenal at this rate. I'm sick of this complacency from Alex 'He's seen it all before' well we need new eyes & ears.

Have we got money ???? If the poorer team are buying players, many rumours but nothing yet, shall we fight for the champion or to stay on this division.

Interesting introduction in the leadup to the non-existing shopping list ! Are you implying the list is empty ?

The first thing that I did on returning from holiday, [yes, the weather was great, thanks], was to ignore the wife and fire up cefax, only to find the score 8 out and none in as the transfers so far. The nearest rumour seems to be paying well over the odds for a Spurs midfielder who was second choice to Owen Hargreaves in a failed England team and a goalkeeper dropped from his National side after his performance in the World Cup and who is now facing 'championship' football after his heroic efforts in the EPL last term. Meanwhile SAF praises up Foster who is now being made to play for a rival team. If there is any plan it is too cunning by far for me to understand.

Fergie out!

Mascerana - the Argentina holding midfielder who was very impressive; failing that a cut-price Vieira would do. Carrick definitely; and Torres or Defoe as alternate. If we really want to push the boat out, we could for Rodrigues too for the midfield. Starting 11: VDS, Defenders: GNev, GHeinze, Rio, Brown. Midfield: Carrick, Scholes, Macerena. Attack: Rooney, Ronaldo, Torres.

Top of the shopping list should be a Manager, Assistant Manager and Chief Executive.
I dare MEN to have a poll on what the fans think of the current lot, or are you like MUTV scared of the "Dear Leader"

If In could choose it'd be Vieira for me,or Makalel??, both of whom finally awoke during the WC to show they can do it!.
Still think SAF doesn't know where to turn, anymore conflict with players should be avoided, as 2 yrs has to be the wizards limit now!!

And so another summer of indecision, penny-pinching and ineptitude in the transfer market drags on with Gill on holiday, Ferguson coming out with the usual guff about how having a couple of 30+ year olds back is like having new signings, and no apparent activity to fill the chasm in our midfield. Much as I love OGS and Scholes, this is just pathetic and is obscuring the fact that those top players who haven't already moved to Madrid or Chelsea probably see a move to OT as a dubious option. News of our esteemed manager falling out with yet another top player is starting to work against us and his utterances and actions seem to be getting more bizarre by the day. What is the point of signing another goalkeeper when Foster is clearly ready to step up? What is the point of sending Rossi out on loan for a season when he is clearly champing at the bit to start at OT? The likes of Torres and Gattuso don't wear the rose-tinted spectacles that so many United fans put on when discussing Fergie and they will see him for what he is - an ill-tempered relic clutching at straws.

Alex - that would be a very entertaining team. Sadly it would finish about 7th in the Premiership. Ossie Ardiles had his famous five at Tottenham. Would that be our Sensational Six!?

Runners-up?!

In our dreams. If I was a Mancunian it'd have to be elsewhere for me next season. I wouldn't pay the kind of prices my family tell me are being charged at OT these days without a guarantee of a major trophy.

Why bother if the ambition's gone?

if we got our hands on torres and gattuso it would make my summer!

pirlo or riquellme would be icing on the cake but if we can get the others i'd be a happy fan!!

Ok now that we know the outcome of the Italian scandal and Chelski have made their usual over-inflated signings lets get started with the transfers to and from Man U. We know that Mikel (the player who never was!!!) has gained us our inital 4m we paid for him back plus an extra 12m from the russian. The imminent sale of Van Nistelrooy to Real Madrid should also net us a cool 15m too. Add that 31m to the 25m+ we've been promised by the Glazers and finally we can complete our new-look team. Torres is a must to replace Van Nistelrooy and a 20m bid should be enough to get him. After that I suppose it's a take your pick really but my preferences are as follows : Buffon for 8m, Gattuso for 7m and Pirlo for 10m. All 3 of these players have just won the world cup and been major players in helping Italy do it. This kind of experince is very rare but urgently needed to complete our team. We could also take Vieira and Zambrotta on season long loan deals too. That leaves 11m+ to bid on Franck Ribery who was very impressive during the world cup. Maybe I'm wrong about this but to bid 14m on Carrick is way over the top, neither he nor Hargreaves had a good world cup and to spend that sort of money on them just because their English is nothing short of stupid. They are both clearly players worth no more than 5m. I'd rather we sign Reo-Coker and Nolan for a combined 10m than pay way over the odds for either of those two. It's great to see both Scholes and Solsjkaer back kicking a ball too and hopefully they can help United win some major silverware this season. Finally I just want to say to all the so-called Man United fans who have called for United to sell Ronaldo to go support F.C. United because Man U don't need fans like you. Ronaldo will mature into a top world-class player in the next year or two. He and Rooney are the future of United along with Torres. Support the Team and Live the Dream.....

When is this speculation gonna turn into reality. We've been linked to the best players in the past but united don't seem to put in any offers then other teams buy the players. I'm gettin sick of hearing about the players that are linked to OT, we need to put bids in for players like torres, riquelme, mascherano, gattuso, vieria. Come on the fans are getting tired of all this speculation, spend some money on some quality players.

I think we should give credit SAF if he had spent all his transfer KIT earlier he wouldnt be able to take advantage of the italy scandal and do some bargain buys.So pls give him a break and lets wait and see what kind of players he buys

HOpefully the team next season:
VDS
G.N RiO VID GAB

Gattuso
ronaldo giggs
Pirlo

Rooney Torres

Ronaldo HAS to stay, bring in Torres, Pirlo and Gattuso. Switch formation to a 4-2-3-1.

Simon Derry, typical Ronaldo fan, you do not require any evidence before suggesting he will be World Class. He is the worst passer, I have ever seen in a winger. His shooting is atrocious apart from the odd flash strike. He is moody and cannot be relied upon when the going gets tough.

i agree with david what has ronaldo done for utd, why is he a different player for his country cos his hearts not at utd? i believe that reno gattusso would be a great signing but ruud is irraplacable torres wont get 25 a season?

Report This Reply

Danny - Ruud is washed up, finished. Get over it. People have got to stop thinking about the Ruud that graced OT in his first 3 years and remember the tripe he dished up over the last 2 seasons. Those that go week in week out would surely agree. Midfield is the key and Torres would be a lovely bonus, as is the return of Scholesy, Heinze and Ole along with emergence of Rossi and David Jones. Carrick & Gattuso are a must and I wouldn't say no to Vieira on a year long loan?

I'm almost tempted - I said almost - to become a Spurs fan!!! Why on earth are we not going for the Duffster???? Better than any winger we have, particularly if Ronny IS on his way .....

Latest rumour is that Fergie's in for Micah Richards ??7.5 mil.

Favour to Oldham apparently-sell on clause with City.
