SIR Bobby Charlton feels the Glazer family have done nothing to warrant any criticism since taking over Manchester United.
The former United forward believes the club have made solid progress on the pitch since the Glazers bought the club almost exactly a year ago.
Despite the recent health worries of Malcolm Glazer, who is currently recovering after suffering a second stroke in a matter of weeks, Charlton is optimistic about the future of United.
Charlton, speaking ahead of the Laureus World Sport Awards in Barcelona, said: "Everyone said the club was going to be in turmoil, but it hasn't been the case.
"They (the Glazers) have just got on with their business, and they have not been a hindrance at all.
"People have been ready to criticise but they haven't so far done anything they can be criticised for.
Future
"Things can change in the future and we never know what to expect in football, but in terms of the way the club operates, things seem to have been going well."
The controversial takeover of the club drew criticism from supporters' groups, and breakaway club FC United was formed by disillusioned fans.
However, after tumbling out of the Champions League at the group stage, United strengthened their squad in the winter transfer window with the signings of Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic, and steadily improved in the latter stages of the campaign.
Although a seven-match winning streak in the league came too late to truly challenge eventual champions Chelsea, Sir Alex Ferguson's team did clinch the Carling Cup with a 4-0 win against Wigan in the final.
"The fact of it is that they (the Glazers) bought the club and everyone had to get on with it, and at the end of the season the fans got something of what they wanted with a good team that won a trophy," said Charlton.
"In a perfect world we could sign whoever we wanted but we know we can't compete with the likes of Chelsea in the transfer market.
"But I think all the fans can see we have a good selection of young players, and I know that on the horizon we have more than our fair share of good youngsters."
Do you agree? Have your say.

we were 2nd in the league to a team with massive financial clout. The big dissapointment was our form in Europe. We have become spoiled by success in recent times. The Glaziers have done nothing wrong but the team underperformed at times.CONSISTENCY being the quality we're looking for.
expect sir bob has not had to put his hand in his pocket and and pay a 15% increas on last seasons prices. no didnt think so just wish he would keep quiet
Bobby - this is a joke, right?
Hey blond bobby - second only to George & Dennis. The Glazers are not a hindrance, i agree. The problem is the debt they have saddled us with.
Come on Bob - take your head out of the sand and line up with true reds.
I see the Glazer's are still paying your wages Bobby.
I think that somebody like Sir Bobby (a United legend) has as much right as Bobbydazzler to give his opinion.
Anyway this argument has been left behind with the few fanatics that claimed all kinds of doom when the yank took over.
The club has moved on and we have hardly heard a squeek from that anti United rabble since.
anti-united? how? concern for our club didn't make us against united. What about the European night v Milan when 10 000 took to the streets to protest. Forget about that? You stand up for what you believe in. That's why I'm proud to be manc
david kelly - the club has moved on? on to higher prices, redundancies, kids being coached macclesfield, walsall, etc on loan to get the wages off the bill, rather than at carrington, to finishing bottom of the CL qualifying group, to offloading keane and seemingly van nistelrooy, to empty seats around the ground (if the declared attendances fool you then good luck), to enforced cup game ticket purchases, should i go on? 'moved on' indeed.
Hard to be critical of him but does seem he's a voice box these days parroting the Glazers are cool & Ferguson stays as long as he wants. Frankly I'd sooner he came out of retirement to replace Fletcher & O'Shea!
Do people not realise that our tickets are cheaper than over half the premiership? Its pathetic to think tickets wouldnt rise and even more if you think thats a reason to hate the glazers. Stop going on about the debt as you have no idea how its getting paid back. One thing for sure is success is what all parties want, obviously including the Glazers. The desire is to make us the best team in the world again. For me thats no reason to complain about. Sir Bobby always will be a legend. His comments just prove how most loyal fans think
The usual nonsense from the prophets doom I see. The Chapions Lge exit, RVN and Keane are all down to Fergie not Glasier. As for the attendances, they are booming despite the lies perpetrated on this site.
stan, the real world yeh please go on .... and go as far as you like be it Chelsea or FC United. Do you realise our reserves have won 7 trophies in the past 2 seasons. People like ben foster have benefited hugely from the loans, which i personally believe is better than staying with the reserves. Maybe you were saying the same thing when players like David Beckham went on loan? And the staff that were made redundant, are you honestly telling me you wouldhave cared one bit if it was during our plc days? Why not look on the bright side instead of always picking petty reasons to be negative, i mean since the glazers arrived, we have definetly improved on the pitch - 83 points suggests that whilst the CL was dissapointing, chelsea and liverpool got knocked out a round later (gaining an extra 0.7m) and Arsenal didnt win it so unless you arent a man u fan trying being loyal to the club
Anybody ever to stop to think why the Club (Gill, Ferguson, Charlton et al) is continually banging on about how great things are? You'd think they had a problem.
Yes there have been empty seats at OT and ticket prices have gone up (which they would have regardless of whether the Glazers were there or not) but it's too early to judge what the Glazers are doing to our club - the best indication of their ambition will be how much money Fergie gets to spend this summer, IMO 50m would win a few more friends...
Stan you and your type are not wanted at Old Trafford. There are plenty more people happy to take your place so why don't you start going to watch non league football at Gigg Lane and leave real football to the grown ups. When United win the Premiership next season you will soon come crawling back with a host of excuses.
Mr kelly in Dublin; how is a ??750 million debt not a hindrance? 3 sseasons when they haven't looked like challenging for anything except the odd domestic cup?You expect theose in the pay of caesar to pay what is due, i expect fans brought up on the best to be aghast as am i!
so, dagenham, dan, me and my type arent wanted at OT? United dont want reds of 25 years standing then? silly me, theyd prefer people who still cough up in the megastore, using their united credit card, before settling down with a budweiser and not fret about the 12% AVERAGE increase in ticket prices. as for the other 'informed' correspondent regarding ticket prices, about 5% of Uniteds tickets fall outside the top half of prices. the rest fall in the top 5, others being London clubs where wages can justify it. Gill's spin still works on a few people clearly.
TMUF - 'when beckham went out on loan'. good example actually - beckham is the only player to go out on loan and come back a success in 10+ years. wonder if the lads sent out on loan realise that?
2nd in the league and were in trouble yeah ok,next joke.
Every body was dying to slag the glaziers off when the hundereds of millions were announced, and yet massive offers came in from sponsers (mansion)was turned down, aig one of the biggest insurance groups in the usa given the job of sponsering the club.
Look these people are real buisness men and want the club to do well, and they will hand fergie what ever money he requires to buy and make the team top class.
Forget about chelsea and roman and his big bank account, all that will come to an end once the man has an english passport,i mean he doesnt want to rot in a russian jail like his mate is doing now does he because of dodgey money.
Arsenal are going to do better than chelsea no worries about that.
man utd just need that midfeild sorting out and some good buys coming in.
I admit some donkeys must go.
Well be there soon youll see.
OH one last thing do you see roman jumping up when chelsea score ???no he just grins and claps like the queen, now at lest the glazier bro's all jump up and show there delight.
I thnk that tells you some thing.
now thats a very silly statement to write.
10,000 fans and you was one of then on a cold windy rainey night objecting when the deal was done.
what a fool, was you really proud being on the street like some activist against the nuclear protests of the 70'and 80 at greenham common,at least they were making a real point.
You and the rest of the idiots should have been taken to court and been fined.
I recall the police had to be on duty that night dealing with fools like you when people in real need ofthem were left helpless.
Well done,im sure you mates will give you a slap on the back then snigger behind your back.
dave kelly of dublin of course bobby has a right to his opinion. the difference he is not paying for it like me. i have two kids we are all st holders the extra cost next year for me will be a considerable amount ??300+
Dan, so realists aren't allowed eh? I'd prefer to have people around me who are aware of what's going on at the club than head-in-the-sand types like yourself and some of the others on here. Fiddling while Rome is burning....
george rhyl saf spent ??200m in last 5 yrs. we have no god given right to continual success. what we can demand is effort do you think we always get that. by the way a team just won cl again without having to resort to chelsea like spending. that makes it 3 yrs in a row. barca squad cost less than ??80 m to assemble. roughly the same amount saf has wasted these last 5 yrs
The debt should be a concern of every United fan. The current level of debt is ??585 million when you include the hedge fund debt. Our ticket prices are now the 5th highest in the Premiership and a 30% rise would see us have the highest prices in the League so long as other teams freeze their prices. Our tickets have gone up by an average of 12.3%, whilst other clubs have either frozen prices, reduced prizes (Charlton) or have initiated small rises (the highest 2.5%). So how long before our tickets become the highest in the league or at least on the same level as Chelsea and Arsenal? It will probably be 3-4 years, so not that long really. When the hedge funds are re-financed United will have to make interest and loan repayments of around 80-90 million a year. How can this be good for the club? The reality is that Glazer is making the fans pay for his purchase of the club. But at the end of the day everyone has a choice as to whether they buy tickets or not. ps. it's easy for people who don't buy tickets to have a moan about peole complaining about ticket prices because you don't have to part with your earned cash.
Stan, you're not in the real world. The redundancies, loans, ticket increases are all the result of the plc business plan. You can't blame the Glazers for everything. That's why I just blame the generic owners, whether that was the plc, the Edwards family, the Coolmore lot, the Scottish mining millionaires, the pension funds, everyone. Glazers are no worse and no better than anyone else.
