RUUD van Nistelrooy's departure from Old Trafford could be long and painful.
The split between Sir Alex Ferguson and his 29-year-old striker might not be resolved until after the World Cup in July.
Fergie and Reds chief executive David Gill have had dialogue over the issue but van Nistelrooy is not expected to be slapped on the transfer list because it would reduce his é10m market value.
But the Dutchman is adamant he won't ask for a transfer following the bust-up that saw him being ordered home before Sunday's match with Charlton. Van Nistelrooy's agent Roger Linse has yet to be informed of the club's plans.
Van Nistelrooy has confirmed to M.E.N. Sport that he wanted to play in Roy Keane's testimonial against Celtic. "I regret the fact that I was not at Roy Keane's testimonial last night," Ruud said.
"I wanted to be at Old Trafford for the match but not being there was not my decision. I wish it could have been different but it was not my choice."
Fergie had told him he wasn't welcome and instead he joined up early with Holland's World Cup squad.
How do you think the situation will be resolved? Have your say.

look at Becks and a few notable others - what's the chances of us now getting ??10m for him? Next to zero, I'd guess, unless the Glazers can do something clever like they did with the AIG deal...

You seem to be forgetting that it was Fergie who brought your list of Gods to the club in the first place. Of course you're going to have some disasters along with transfer triumphs. That's life.

if not so then i will sympathised with rudd but then again ,with the new system of play, rudd will find out his playing time will be limited.
either way i think it may be best that he leave the scene on a high.
the only unfortunate thing is the snap from the manager.
so sad.rudd doesn't deserve such a treatment after all he has done for the club.
some cooler hand in the high tower must calm the situation down and allow him to leave the club with the dignity he deserves.
a sad day indeed.
we will not forget him for a long time.
thanks for the good times.
good luck in the future.
