REDS legend Bobby Charlton believes Wayne Rooney is destined to be remembered as one of the all time United greats.
It isless than 18 months since Rooney arrived at Old Trafford from Everton, yet already he has established himself as a key figure in Sir Alex Ferguson's side.
Apart from a series of spectacular goals, the England forward has proved to be virtually unstoppable at times and the only minor complaints with his overall performances have been a couple of ineffective Champions League displays.
And Charlton' admits the 20-year-old superstar gets his pulse racing in a manner no other young player can do, reminding the World Cup winner of his old team-mates George Best and Denis Law.
"Just like George and Denis, Wayne gets me off my seat when he gets the ball and there are not many players who can do that," Charlton told MUTV.
"He is such a marvellous player to watch, yet it all seems so effortless.
"I am so pleased we have him at Manchester United. There is no question he will go on to become one of the great players. He has a God-given talent and you can just see how much he loves the game."
Do you agree with Sir Bobby? Will Rooney be one of the all-time greats? Have your say.

Wayne Rooney is a living proof that Manchester United still & will always attract the best players in the world. How Scot Parker wishes he could put the clock back a couple of years and never chose Chelsea. Kezman same. Wright Philips will be another one shortly. Carlton Cole another. And I am sure that there are more, not just fringe players, disilusioned with the 'Special One'. Brilliant manager but???? Is he good for Young Players, waiting for a chance to break in the first eleven??? Does he respect all his players??? Or is it just the 'Special Five'??? Sometimes he reminds me of a butcher cutting up beef.
Yes. He's right.
Fergie must be furious with all this unecessary pressure on a very young player; charlton of all people should know better what these kind of pressures can do to young talent from his time with bestie. Rooney is an exceptionally talented player we all know that; but why burden him with expectations that are beyond those of a mere mortal[ carrying the united team and england to boot] leave him alone to play football bobby leave the dross to the press they do it better than you anyway....
If Wayne stays focused and keeps playing with that grin the good news is that it will price him out of a move away as he will become priceless. If you watch his progress and the goals he has scored and his general play he reminds me of a hybrid of Best,Charlton and Maradona..he shoots from 30 yards as did Bobby,he rides tackles and goes past players like Besty did,and he is as bullish as Maradona with immense strength. He also possesses pace which to me it seems has developed recently.Deceptively fast.
Yes he has da talent but when he came WE DIDNT MANAGE 2 WIN ANY TITLE AND BEFORE HE CAME WE WON DA PRE LEAGUE AND DA FACUP OVER MILL WALL REMEMBER??, He has talent AND ALONG WITH RONALDO HE COULD BE A LEGEND. y has the MEDIA AND THE FANS OVERATE ROONEY EVEN IF HE PLAYS AN ORDIINARY GAME? even if ronaldo has an odinary game HE IS UNDERATED AND ROONS OVERATED?? y IS THIS? beCOZ RONALDO IS PORTUGESE?
I just dont understand why everyone is putting this pressure on Wayne. Fergie does it, Sven does it, other coaches do it, the players do it, and now Bobby Charlton does it. Why dont they shut up and let him do his thing, that way he can concentrate on winning trophies for United and developing as a player.
I just think it's hilarious how everyone keeps going on about Mourinhou, when Fergie, has probably THE best player.
Ok, chelski have a very well oiled machine, but so do United.
I reckon United, with Ruud and Rooney, and a totallly reinvorated Scholesy, they will can do some serious damage.
Goodnight.
