The 20-year-old is at The Hawthorns for the rest of the season and is currently helping their Barclays Premiership survival bid with a string of impressive performances in central midfield.
But Richardson's long-term ambitions remain at Old Trafford and he wants to establish himself as United's next left winger, eventually succeeding Ryan Giggs.
"I definitely wants to go back next season and try to be a regular, definitely," Richardson said.
"Sir Alex just told me to go to West Brom and get some experience for next season. I'm at West Brom at the moment, playing quite well, hopefully next season I'll go back and play regularly.
"I'm really enjoying myself. I'm playing centre midfield at The Hawthorns, so it's a bit different from left wing but I'm enjoying it."
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is understood to have a limited summer transfer budget following the capture of Wayne Rooney, and Richardson believes he can save the club millions by breaking into the first team.
Richardson added: "When you hear that it's good; if they are not bringing anyone in then it might give you more of a chance.
"At the end of the day Manchester United are a great club and there will be competition, I'm up for the challenge anyway."
Despite his progress in central midfield under Baggies boss Bryan Robson, Richardson usually enjoys a wide role where he can "express" himself.
"Central midfield you get on the ball more but on the left wing you can express yourself more and run at people.
"So I like left wing, and I think the Manchester United left wing is the quickest way in. It's obviously going to be tough."
United reserves tightened their hold on the Barclays league top spot this week after bagging three valuable points following a 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion at Moss Lane, Altrincham. They are now six points ahead of Aston Villa, the reigning champions.
They are at home again on Thursday when they take on Newcastle United at Moss Lane (7pm).
It was different story for Brian McClair's Pontin's League side who saw their lead over Blackpool at the top of the table reduced to three points after going down 2-1 to Stockport County at Edgeley Park.
The Reds have four games to play starting with Tuesday's meeting with Wrexham at Ewen Fields, Hyde (7pm). Tweet

I'm sure we'll see Kieran on the wing next season, in all those Carling Cup games.
I have found Richardson's loan period at WBA to be very encouraging as he has had some chance to play at the top level, albeit in a struggling team and out of position. By all accounts he has performed well but I would like Robson to put him on the left wing as Greening can play in the middle. Certainly we must have an effective alternative to Giggs to put a some pressure on the complacent so and so. It's clear that we're not going to have much money to spend in the summer so we have to make the most of what we've got. I like his attitude of wanting to come back to OT rather than moving away now that he has tasted regular first team football. This shows the wisdom of sending our young lads out. Anyone know how Eagles and any one else on loan is doing?
Kieran, Hope you enjoy things at the Hawthorns because, like Mr "Ive got a Champoins league medal" Greening you have found your level. He'll never make it at OT unless he's here on an away day.
