Reds condemn flare-up

POLICE are seeking to identify the Manchester United fan who threw a red flare on to the pitch during the FA Cup quarter-final at Southampton.

Television footage and CCTV recordings clearly show the culprit hurling the missile - as shown in this BBC picture - which landed in the penalty area.

United have vowed to do all in their power to ensure that the supporter, when identified, is banned from watching the Reds.

They have also urged other fans to co-operate with Hampshire Constabulary in identifying the culprit.

A statement from the club says: "Manchester United condemns the actions of the the spectator who threw the flare onto the pitch. The club strongly hopes that TV evidence will enable him to be identified.

"Once that has happened, United will take swift and appropriate action against him to make sure he will not be able to stain the club's reputation in such a way again."

so fireworks in a crowd are dangerous ? they have them at the end of every cup final these days. sure the lad was daft, but hes a good young lad who has made a mistake, who hasn`t ? life ban.. ? well out of order someone COULD have been hurt ....but they WERE NOT.
harsh talk of life bans lets keep a sense of perspective
yep haul the lad in give him a warning, one things for sure he`ll never do it again.
it should be left at that

Its a joke talking about a life ban, there was no players around that area of the pitch where it was thrown, if the lad wanted to hurt somebody he would of through it into the Southampton end......If it was a Chelsea or Liverpool supporter Iwonderif a big deal would of been made, ive been to Anfield about 10 times and each time there as been coins threw at United fans, what happends about that???CUMMA UNITED ROAD

Have the police or Everton taken any action against those who threw coins and a mobile phone at the United team?
This flare was a spur of the moment act aimed at no-one and with no intention to hurt or harm anyone.
Wise up United, don`t face the wrath of your own fans by taking any serious action against this guy!

Strange for a Blue to say this but for once I agree with Sal the Kid - Ban somebody for getting excited at an away cup tie? Get a grip! Was there any malicious intent - I think not.
