Harry Redknapp backing Manchester United star Paul Scholes for Euro 2012

Paul Scholes has slotted back in seamlessly
Harry Redknapp admits he would love to see Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes pull on an England shirt at this summer's European Championship.

Scholes has not played for England since retiring from international football in 2004 at the age of 29.

The Manchester United midfielder hung up his boots completely last summer but answered an SOS from Sir Alex Ferguson last month and has seamlessly slotted back into the Reds' squad as they look to pip bitter local rivals City to the Barclays Premier League title.

Scholes turned down the opportunity to play at the 2010 World Cup when offered the chance by Fabio Capello - a move he later said he regretted.

He may now get a crack at another international tournament with England however, if, as expected Redknapp takes over from the Italian as national coach this summer.

"Let's be honest, you'd love to have Paul Scholes in the Euros this year," the Tottenham boss said.

"He'd be in your team, he's that good. You'd love him to play. He plays like a Spaniard, he can play like (Barcelona's) Xavi and (Andres) Iniesta. He doesn't give the ball away."

Should Scholes play at Euro 2012? Have your say.

Hands off Redknapp!!! Scholesy is having a good time playing for us, don`t spoil things by dragging him back to that circus.

And on another matter; why is there no "add a comment" box on some subjects on here? Am I the only one or has others noticed and are frustrated too?

I said he was retiring too early in the summer and I'm surprised SAF allowed him to. I would even welcome the idea of him staying on next season, his performances show that he would still be able to play at the highest level.

The idea that he might play for England again seems extremely unlikely however.

If asked he should definitely go. He has never had a really great tournament for England and his career deserves that. He can help United to the title this year and then help England have a good shot at the Euro’s – what a way to finish your career that would be?
My only concern is that by the end of the season his form may begin to dip. Last season he was great up until the New Year and then I feel his age caught up with him a bit and he started to look laboured. I think he’s having an adrenalin rush at present so let’s hope it keeps him going for a while longer!

Well if Harry is going to be the new Engerland boss why doesn't he ask Scholesy?

He dominated the game against the bin dippers and Gerrard was none existent.

I hope thats a joke. We should be building for the future, not looking at the past.

I have read Redknapp comment in Soccernet, it is great to hear that he will lure Scholes back to the England squad, but he also added his admiration for other veteran England midfielders such as Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Scott Parker, that could be a bad news for some good & promising youngsters for getting a place in the 23 men squad.

last season at times he looked passed it so far this he has arguably been the mom in every game he has played.

for harry it is an absoloute no brainer.

slowcoach barry or scholes

Rednapp's showing his credentials (or lack of) as a [potential international manager already.

Would be worth it if only to stop another England manager thinking that HE"s the one who will make the midfield of Lampard and Gerrard work - they just can't play together on the same side. Altho with Uncle "Arry picking the team it would be hard to guess who he would pick Lampard or Gerrard - no brainer really but....... Uncle "Arry???

Why not call up Grandad Moses while he's at it.

Now what a combination Wilshire and Scholes would make in midfield.

I think Harry is looking for Paul as Captain too.

'Arry must get the job first before he picks playerrs and teams

I've loved seeing Paul Scholes on any football ground, and the fact that it has been overwhelmingly at Old Trafford is a privelage and an honour we have all shared. I really do hope he signs for another season - but elects to stay away from the International scene, now if thats selfish then so be it I will plead guilty. IMO and to my delight he is coping far better than any of us could have expected when he chose to come back. But there are limits in anyones twilight time, if he is going to push the boat out then let it be with the club he loves so much.

Who ever they pick, they have to play with a sense of urgency. England players need to learn to run, and out-work the other side. A younger crew are more coach-able, and perhaps offer more of this.

I also think Micah Richards, Darren Bent, and Walcourt should be there.

Not just Scholes, the entire United English contingent should be suiting up for the 3 lions this summer. If the FA had what it takes, they'd ask United to represent them this summer, just add Joe Hart and a few others from around the league and England could take home their first prize since '66.
Goalie - Joe Hart (might be light blue but he is very good and English)
Defense - P. Jones, Smalling, Rio, Cahill, A. Cole
Midfield - Cleverly, Scholes, Carrick, A. Young
Forwards - Rooney, Welbeck

Up the Reds!
