United’s 21-year-old third choice keeper’s last senior away outing for the Reds was at Aldershot but he is now primed for another SOS call in London.
The Macclesfield-born keeper came to Sir Alex Ferguson’s rescue against Stoke City on Tuesday night when the champions were struck by a double injury blow the day before the match.
Anders Lindegaard was KO’d in Monday’s pre-match training session and left Carrington on crutches and then Fergie revealed that David de Gea, too, had picked up an injury towards the end of the workout.
Both were ruled out of the Stoke match and Amos was drafted in for his Premier League debut.
Prior to his Aldershot Carling Cup match in October he did play at Elland Road against Leeds in the previous round but the rest of his four first team appearances have been in the home comforts of Old Trafford.
But having kept a clean sheet against Stoke, Amos believes he is capable of gatecrashing Lindegaard and De Gea’s duel for the No 1 shirt.
“It felt really good to keep a clean sheet on my Premier League debut. I have been waiting a long time for an opportunity this season and, thankfully, it has come. I like to think I made the most of it,” said Ben.
“I have been ready all season. I feel I am ready to play at this level.
“It has been kind of frustrating that these chances don’t come around. But you have to be ready when something like that happens and you are thrown straight in.
“I just played my own game. There were a few nerves but I think that is healthy. I had a few little nerves before I went out but I played my own game.
“All I can do is keep a clean sheet and play the best I can when I get a chance. You have to do the best you can. It is the manager who makes the decisions and all I can do is put pressure on the other two in training and take any chance I get.”
Apart from a routine save and collecting a few crosses, Amos’s big-time bow was a sedate one.
“In a sense, I wanted more to do but then there is a temptation to go and chase things,” he added.
“You see a lot of keepers with not much experience who go chasing things to try and make an impact and there is no need to do.
“That is what I had in my head. Obviously I wanted to be positive with any decision.
“I had to be positive about them but I wasn’t going to chase anything I didn’t need to and I think I got that right.”

He can't be worse than De Gea.
This lad has the potential to be our No.1 in the future, even ahead of de gea! he's calm ( not like the current de gea who is pretty shaky) and he is very loyal to the club having come through our ranks. come on benny, if you are eventually drafted in do your best and enjoy yourself! we are behind you!
proud to be a rag, united til i die
stay calm son, torres won't hit the goal anyway!
Keep of De Gea's back he is a kid who will be an all time great if left to develop without all the slagging off from his own fans.Amos is a very good keeper and i have every faith in him for Sunday.
It goes without saying that we'll be behind Ben Amos but De Gea has massive potential and could be our keeper for 15 years. He will not be fully developed physically for another 3 years - let's face it, he can't even grow a proper beard yet.......
Massive chance on Sunday to beat Chelsea and fully expect us to do so but I am wary of Torres who likes to score against Utd...... If we have Valencia, Nani, Rooney and Welbeck running at their back four, we should get enough chances as Luiz is a liability and they are without Cole.
Never been anything but impressed with the lad every time I've seen him. Same age as De Gea but looks much more confident and with more physical presence.
I hope Amos gets to start on Sunday and it goes without saying we will all be supporting him, as we need to with DeGea. The GK position is the most vulnerable position on the park, its all about confidence. And this is exactly whats lacking with DeGea - confidence, as I have said before IMO when we got DeGea he just wasn't ready, the homework on him was not done. I just hope in the future that when we do get fit GK then a stated No 1 spot is identified and we stick with him - be it AL, DD, BA. When we had them fit we were rotating them!! which to me is pure stupidity with a Keeper.
Would love for this young man to make DeGea and SAF look life fools. He looked solid against Stoke and while he did not have a lot to do, made one good save and seemed in command of his area, I say give him the start United cannot afford anymore Degea mistakes.
At times you deserve a slice of luck. On Tuesday we did. It looks even brighter over the Bridge - no Ashely Cole, Drogba, Anelka, Kalu and most important; no shooting boots for the Sparniard. And there's their confuesed captain to capitalise on...
I miss Ben Foster
Good Luck to the lad
Unlike most of the instant experts on here, I've watched Ben Amos develop through the juniors and he has all the attributes to make a good keeper - he's tall, athletic, fearless and a good user of the ball. However, there is a difference between the pressure in the Premier League compared to the lower leagues. I've said before that, when you get your opportunity with a side like United, you have to step up to the plate and take advantage of the opportunity as you won't get too many. It was the blight of Ben Foster, another talented keeper (as he is currently showing with WBA) who got a string of games when Edwin VDS was injured at the start of 2009/10 but, unfortunately, a number of high profile gaffes effectively ended his career at OT. For those of you with memories, you will recall that Ben Amos' performance in the League Cup against Wolves (we won 3-2 thanks to a Hernandez goal at the death) was questionable and he was at fault for both Wolves goals. That doesn't make him a bad keeper but he needs to heed the lesson - if he gets to start against Chelsea, he will need to cover himself in glory, otherwise the 'quick to rubbish' fans will be out in their droves, like they have been for David de Gea. People should remember that football is a game that relies heavily on confidence and we should really try to 'big up' our players' confidence by supporting, rather than knocking them. Good luck to Ben.
Give the lad a chance, and ensure that the defence look's after him. Good luck.
Torres hat trick so beware United City will be back in front by 3 points come 6pm Sunday...
Well he should be ready its his job.
Amos is a legend!
Well with the return of Rooney, Nani, Young, Cleverley and De Gea, it sounds like we go into the game on Sunday with a pretty strong squad, couple that with John Terry being out we should be confident of getting a result. Its about time we had some luck at the Bridge and hopefully we can pick up the three points.
