Manchester United hopeful of Paul Pogba deal

NEGOTIATIONS: Ferguson is hopeful United can reach an agreement with Pogba
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is still hopeful of retaining young midfielder Paul Pogba.

The 18-year-old was introduced for his Premier League debut in United's 2-0 win over Stoke last night.

It was a notable move on the day Ravel Morrison quit for West Ham and comes at a time when United are still trying to persuade Pogba to sign a new contract.

Italian giants Juventus are amongst the clubs who have expressed an interest in the French teenager but Ferguson has previously advised him not to follow an immediate wage hike.

The United boss has stressed that Pogba will become very wealthy if he stays and manages to establish himself in the Reds' first team and the Scot confirmed talks are continuing.

"Pogba did very well," said Ferguson.

"The boy has great talent and tremendous physique for an 18-year-old. You can't believe it.

"We are negotiating his contract at the moment.

"It is a bit complicated because he has changed his agent a couple of times.

"But the boy wants to stay, that is obvious. Hopefully we can get it done soon."

What good news. Stoke might not have provided exactly robust opposition, but that cameo performance on Tuesday night was an absolute pleasure to watch. Having followed the lad's progress on MUTV it always seemed fairly obvious that he wouldn't look out of place in a first team shirt, as soon as he got a chance to wear one.
Fergie, Fergie sign him up!

its about time he was give some minutes on the pitch & the more minutes he get the more comfterble hell be on the pitch & will show even more of his quality & shooting ability that the midfield seriously lacks at present to be honest

cant wait to see more of pogba who is good enough & as good if not better due to his physique as fabregas was @ 18

From his performances for the juniors, Paul has looked the most likely to step up to first team action. In the same way that Nicky Butt was the pick of the 92 brigade in the Youth ranks (I exclude Giggsy because he was already a regular at that stage), so too for Pogba. There were some good footballers but the area of most note last year was in midfield - Pogba, Morrison and Tunnicliffe. Morrison was talented but tempermentally suspect. Tunnicliffe had boundless energy and a robust style but, although this shines with 18 year olds, there is less guarantee about carrying that forward into the Premier League. Pogba has size, speed, grace and looks more suited to a speedy promotion and, from his cameo against Stoke, I would hope we have unearthed another future star. Morrison's first team appearances were, I suspect, limited because the club knew he saw his future elsewhere and I hope that SAF's perseverence with Paul Pogba is because he expects him to extend his career at OT soon. Here's hoping!!

If you're good enough it doesn't matter what age you're. SAF knows better than anyone, he can't afford to let this lad slip the net. He just needs to be involved in every first team squad from here on in and take this golden opportunity which is now upon him. He could well be the midfield dynamo we've been craving.
Petrucci hopefully won't be too far behind.
