Gossip: Mega-rich Anzhi eye swoop for Manchester United's Dimitar Berbatov

Dimitar Berbatov

Manchester United forward Dimitar Berbatov has been linked with a lucrative move to big-spending Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala.

The 30-year-old Bulgarian has made just one Premier League start this season and is thought to have attracted the interest of Paris Saint Germain. His contract with the Reds runs out next summer, although the club have the option of extending it by a year.

But Anzhi are thought to be preparing a £15m offer for the striker and could be willing to pay the player £7.5m a year.

“We would be interested when Anzhi make a concrete offer,” Berbatov's agent Danchev told the Mirror. “We will sit down with Dimitar and ponder this.

"I don’t know if Dimitar is happy in Manchester. He plays, then he just sits on the bench.”

What should United do with Berbatov? Have your say.

If this is true and we are offered £15m we should take hand and all and put the money towards a couple of new midfielders. Berba is obviously not central to our plans anymore

It is obvious to everyone in the stands that Dimitar has fallen foul of Fergie and you know what happens to players who fall foul of Fergie? Taxi for Dimitar!!!!

Dimi is confidence and a form player who, when high on confidence, will pull off some of the most outrageous pieces of skill, but when low on confidence, will look like a sorry man ambling on the pitch without any sense of direction. Sadly, this has been the case this season. This can partly be attributed to him being in and out of the team and partly to the hefty price tag that has clearly weighed him down.

Will he stay? Of course Berbatov is history because once on the wrong side of SAF there is only going to be one person staying. But this latest example of atrocious, self indulgent, inept man management aimed at embarrassing Berba is pathetic.

My whole perception of Dimi changed when I watched him embarrassing James Collins, it was out of this world, and it was an intricate piece of creativity I have ever watched in my life. Berba a genius!

Unfortunate that he was signed just before Phelan became Fergie's new right hand man: the opposite in every way to a Phelan type player.

It is sensible for Ferguson to accept the fees rather than let him go for free at the end of this season. Arsenal also sold Thierry Henry when he was 30.

looks like if they come up with a decent offer then fergie will say yes thanks, and yet theres that part of me that says dimi still can play a crucial role for utd and just as a midfeilder he can play attacking midfeild role any day.
But is it cash thats going to sway this and anzil have lots of cash lots of it.

If it is true that his agent has aid these things then you can take it as red er read that Berba is not happy with his current situation and that they will indeed ponder the offer. And if an agent says that he doesn't know if his player is happy or not then I for one do not beleive it. The statements above say it all for me.
Berba is so far down the pecking order now that I have thought for some time that he could well move on in January.
At £15 mill I cannot see United turning that down for a player of his age.
But I have been wrong before.

What a shame for fans thats another player who can thrill the crowds nd has skill and intelligence gone by the wayside, its all about running yourself into the ground at united whoever comes off most knackered gets man of the match disgusting when you look at the attcking talent lost Ronaldo Tevez Scholes Berba if he goes and replaced with very avg players I for one do not think the club is headed in the right direction at all, certainly its not the same going to Old Trafford these days scrapping by the Norwiches and Sunderlands of the world and getting hammered by City 6-1, if they get 15m it will go where the Ronaldo money went to the banks and before anyone starts bleating about our 3 new signings these were made possible only by us shedding 7-8 players and thus reducing the overall wage bill, manager himself admitted this there is just 65 m in the bank now so its not a surprise they are yearning after cash, Rooney/Berbatov still best forward line IMO

I Just got news of my favorite striker Macheda, "machedinho27: Nearly back to full fitness...Sunday ill be back training with the team! Can't wait! [via Twitter]". Berbatov going is beyond all of us here. My hope is that at least we do not spend any money on strikers. Rather channel all our resources on CMs. We've got an exciting pool of talented strikers we can depend on for the next five years. Macheda is one of those.

Sell him and use the cash towards plugging the gap in midfield.

The ironic thing is he should be in the team as he is a far better footballer than either Welbeck (who will never make it) and Hernandez (impact player). Infact technically he is one of the best players at the club. It really is baffling the way he has been treated.

One sentence:
"Sell at or own peril"

Why sell Berbatov?True quality is hard to find.Players with potential are just that--with potential.

I would sooner play Berba in midfield than Carrick any day of the week Berba can keep the ball longer for a start , but the wages they are offering are huge so i think he will go .

Has anyone seen the replacement that's been touted? Miroslav Klose! OH MY GOD!

Berbatov has 18months of contract left as united can activate an extra year @ anytime and united will not let h
im leave on a free next summer if he isnt sold in January espesially when they can command a fee of @ least 10m

p.s
i hope owen and diouf follow Berbatov out the door and macheda gets more chances but i think macheda could go also with a new 4th choice striker coming in

Snap their hand off for that sort of money, as long as it goes towards bringing in some quality in central midfield.

If it is true I wish Berbatov all the best even though I shall miss his brilliant skills and
creativity.

Agreed that he still has class but unfortunately he has not made it at OT barring last season!!! But that is not what you expect from a 30M signing to deliver after 3 seasons...I think it would be better that he goes as we can use the money to bring some creativity in Midfield and can also cover for the inflated prices; the reason which SAF often gives that keeps him away from January market......
Plus we have enough strikers(Rooney,Chica,Welbeck,Owen,Macheda,Diouf) in our squad and we do not need a replacement at this stage atleast!!
