Sir Alex Ferguson named his second youngest ever Premier League side against Tottenham on Monday.
At 30 years of age Frenchman Evra was ‘le papa’ of them all in the starting XI for the Spurs match and stand-in captain for the night.
Without retired Edwin Van der Sar, Gary Neville and Paul Scholes, plus injuries to Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic and with Ryan Giggs on the bench last Monday the Reds’ average age was slashed to 23.
But still Spurs were put to the sword 3-0.
“The young players deserve what they get. You have to give them a lot of credit,” said Evra.
“A lot of people talk about the academies at other clubs but you can see the youngsters we have got are amazing.
“In the Community Shield, West Brom and Spurs the boss showed he is not afraid to put young players in. We have lost a lot of experienced players, but now you can see the team is fresh, with a lot of energy.
“I am really surprised because these young players have so much composure.”
New goalkeeper David de Gea has been particularly under the spotlight after a difficult start.
But Evra says the Spaniard is heading in the right direction.
“The goalkeeper’s performance was very good. With his feet and everything,” said Pat.
“The crowd were behind him. He has to say thank you to the fans. He was really pleased.”
Meanwhile, two more of United’s youth products are taking the next step in their soccer education by going out on loan.
Mancunian midfielder Danny Drinkwater, 21, is joining Barnsley until the new year and Northern Ireland international midfielder Oliver Norwood, 20, is moving to Scunthorpe also until January.

Great Player....Great attitude....and a funny character..
He was singing #Wembley...#Wembley# when the teams were heading back to the dressing room after our victory over Ciddie in the Community Shield....
His really does play for the club and has studied our history...
He'd be good on a quiz night!

L'papa is Giggsy but I think you will last as long as him and be just as big a legend as him.
You are already a legend.
Thanks for being here for us.
Our kids will maintain their flying start to the season. I see Welbeck/Cleverley are reportedly set for new 5 year deals which is great news and United talisman Chicharito should pen that new 5year deal soon aswell.....the future is bright for Manchester United. And to the bitter using my name, change it you pathetic 5 year old.
Patrice is a great character to have around,he knows when to play the joker and when to be deadly serious, despite his dip in form since the World Cup, it always reassures to see his name on the team sheet, hopefully some of his charisma will rub off on the young lads.
I hear blue rats and london chavs (chelsea) muppets claiming cleverely/ Welbeck hadnt played against anyone yet and don't deservs the plaudits.
Cleverley, Welbeck tore Barcelona to shreds in pre-seasons, mauled the over-rated city mob with ease and helped destroy tottenham, yeah three no-bodies huh......well one, city just a small club, but Barca and Spurs are certainly not
Then again, these two kids are giving those clubs alot to fear, better then next door to everything in their over-rated squads.
A message to city, chelsea....you cant buy success, history and you def cant win it with dads army, Utd kids will blow you away.
.....
Pogba, Welbeck, Cleverley, Morrison, Fabio, Rafa, Evans, Smalling, Jones, De Gea, Chicharito, Nani, Anderson.....the future is red, the future is united, the english dominance will remain ours.
De Gea
Rafael, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra
Nani, Fletcher, Anderson, Young
Rooney, Hernández
can't wait to see that line up in the very near future
Very good player, not a great. Bale would be a great.
A few seasons ago and Evra was United's best player. He's still an excellent left back, but United don't seem to need his left sided attacking as much any more. This is a sign of the ability and drive of Park, Nani and now Young, rather than Evra's skills diminishing.
best left back i've seen in recent times, no left back in this planet can lace his boots right now. great ball sense wen going up front, knows how best to link up with a winger, never tired, i love this guy
With Evra our left back is a full bus stop
