Danny Welbeck says he is living the dream after the Manchester-born striker got United’s Old Trafford Premier League goal account underway on Monday.
"There is no better feeling for a Manc kid than scoring for United," said the 20-year-old from Longsight after the 3-0 win over Tottenham.
The former Hulme-based Trinity C of E High School student has been the spearhead of the new-look young Reds and opened the scoring against Spurs and had a vital cheeky back-heel assist for the second scored by Anderson.
Welbeck and fellow Academy product Tom Cleverley are now desperate to establish themselves in the senior ranks.
"We have both been at the academy for over 10 years really. For us both to be coming through and starting in the Manchester United first team is a massive achievement," added the striker.
"We are so grateful to all the coaches we have had throughout the youth system. We will never forget them and will always be grateful to them.
"It does give us confidence when the manager picks us. But we know we have a great squad. There is youth and experience in abundance.
"When it comes to team selection, whoever is chosen will give it their best shot. Me and Tom have shown we will work hard for the team whenever we are chosen. We want more of it."
United lost a trio of vast experience following the retirements last season of Gary Neville, Paul Scholes and Edwin van der Sar.
But the loss of their well of knowledge has been offset by a new dressing room freshness that has threatened some of the established stars.
Reds boss Sir Alex Ferguson has issued a warning for some of the senior pros that they may have to be patient before they wrestle back their places from the new kids on the block.
"The youngsters do bring a vitality," says Fergie.
"In their pre-season work and the way they have been training, they are telling me to pick them. I have no option. Obviously, players like Ryan Giggs and Ji-sung Park could do the job just as well. But they got in at the right time.
"They played some of the games in the United States. They played in the Community Shield. They played last week. We go ahead with it.
"The club has always believed in young players. As a group they look as though they could go a long way. That is encouraging. It gives everyone enthusiasm. It gives you that great dream and hope that it is going to get better."

Seems like a good lad, i hope he keeps his place.
Bebaflop must be surplus now - get rid while we can. Get a midfielder in.
I LOVE IT JUST LOVE IT WHEN WE MAKE DO WITH CITY REJECTS.
To be honest there's no place for Carrick to be sell and Giggs to retire. Rio should never start before Smalling and Jones. Just need a new world class midfield.
Keep focused and keep your feet on the ground boy !
I love how the first two comments are from people with mock usernames based upon the two most prolifically ridiculed posters on this site, possibly the whole internet.
Kudos.
However, re: "19x Chumpions" post ----> go home.
Keep up the good work Daniel son !!!!
Always a bit special to see a local kid come through.
The writing is well and truly on the wall for Berbatov now and despite SAF's recent comments I can't believe we'd keep him if a serious offer was on the table. I know there are plenty on here that rave about him but if we're not going to play the bloke then it makes no sense to keep him however good he might be.
I was talking to a Spurs fan at work and he said after the flattering 3 nil result at OT. His team are in trouble because the even made Wellbeck look class! CTID
Live the dream Danny boy...and to think that this team could potentially be together for the next 10yrs.... future is bright, future is Red!
De Gea (20)
Smalling (20) Jones (19) Evans (23) Fabio (21)
Nani (23) Cleverly 21) Anderson (23) Young (26)
Looney (25) Chicharito (23)
Subs: Lindergaard (27): Rafael (21), Wellbeck (20), Valencia (25), Morrison (18), Pogba (18) , Tunnicliffe (18)
Danny Welbeck is a good player, with lots of potential, no more than that, at present.
I hope we keep berba, but I think SAF wouldnt hesitate in P/EX him for Modric or even better,...Mario Goetze.
Hello my fellow reds!
Just thought I should post a comment regarding my views on how things are looking so far. Firstly, it's very early days, so I don't want to suggest we are the finished article just yet. But still ... the signs are looking extremely good!
Wellbeck is doing what I fully expected him to do, following his progress at Sunderland last year ... he's growing into a very good player. Those who are saying he's not good enough must be looking at different twenty year old to the one I saw at Wembley and TOD. He's got pace, is getting stronger, works hard, has very good ability and really can finish. Add to that the fact that he's a local lad who loves playing here, and I see no reason why he cannot be a vital squad member. Hernandez, with his blinding pace, exceptional movement and clinical finishing is ahead of Danny, no question about that. Berbatov's obvious qualities and experience will also likely place him ahead of Danny in certain games, likewise Owen. But these last three are fairly evenly matched in terms of what they offer. Which means Danny IS good enough! That he's behind Rooney and Hernandez is nothing to be ashamed about, as most of the forwards in Europe would find themselves behind those two! I am more than happy with ALL of our forwards, including Macheda, although I think SAF would rightfully sell Diouf at the right price.
Cleverley has been excellent so far, and the potential of his partnership with Anderson is immense. That said, I think a fully fit Fletcher would compliment the two perfectly in the big games. Even Carrick would do a good job of screening the back four, allowing Cleverley and Andeson to push forward. But I think the most interesting option could turn out to be Jones ... the most impressive 19 yr old I have seen here since Giggs. This boy is, to coin Gary Neville's phrase, solid gold. An absolute diamond, who will prove as big a steal at 16.5 mil as hernadez was at 6/7 mil. His ability is immense, strength, pace, awareness, composure and a maturity that belies his tender age. He is our long term captian in the making, and a nailed on legend in the Bruce, Vidic, Robson or Keane mould. If SAF decides to play him as a defensive midfielder he will positively terrorise the opposition in the manner that Robson and Keane did.
Then there's Smalling, another diamond, who now looks as good a right back as he does a centre back. De Gea will be just fine. He needs to build up his frame, which he will, and also get used to the levels of concentration needed, which again he will. There will still be mistakes, but those will be ironed out, and then we will see an excellent goalkeeper. Young already looks a steal, bringing the type of penetrative pace and variation to the left wing lacking as age has caught up with Giggs. He looks a real threat out there, and moves seamlessly inside to great effect. Rooney just needs to keep fit to have another monster of a season, and is our best hope of retaining our title and challenging for the CL.
A final mention on Evans. He has been much maligned on here, as has others. But I thought he was excellent at Wembley and superb again on Monday. He looks to be getting back to the form of two seasons ago, when most of us had no worries when we saw his name on the team sheet. With Rio nearing the end, and Vidic not too far behind, Evans will be needed, at least as cover for Smalling and Jones, and also for Evra/Fabio. Indeed it is the sheer versatility of these yopungsters that is so impressive, especially with Brown and O'Shea gone.
Anyway, played two, won two, with smatterings of thrilling football from a very young team, and with several more hugely gifted youngsters waiting in the wings. There will be ups and downs, but that's to be expected.
So I would ask my fellow reds to see the positives ... as SAF is building yet another fantastic side is before our very eyes. Maybe even his best yet!

has the identity of Danny from Wilmslow been revealed? all those insider comments. is it no less than Welbeck himself?
I agree - Berb tries and seems a nice chap but, in general, he's underperformed so why not get some return for our record investmant and invest in another young midfielder (NOT Schneider) to boost our strength there
Gordon (in hospital but boosted by
onday's result)
City mate of mine told me today he was apparently rejected by city for being 'not promising enough'
I agree that young Danny is a very exiting and promising future regular star with us. Rightly or wrongly, and for my own personal reasons, I am not at all that interested in his future England career. However, It is always satisfying when genuine local talent breaks through with us.
One of the problems of being locally produced is that, for some strange reason, the burden of pressure on the player is increased. Coupled with the fact that he is also playing with the greatest team on Earth, I just hope that Danny can overcome this particular obstacle?
However, I take great confidence in the fact that our “new” striker will be guided under the shrewd leadership of SAF and his coaching staff. He could not be in more capable hands than the aforementioned mentors.
All the very best to you, Danny, and all your other young United compatriots. I have said this before, and I apologise to other forum contributors for repeating myself, but please take on board Sir Matt Busby’s advice to a very good friend of mine, Ernie Bond, who gained a champions winner’s medal with us in1952 – “Remember the three Ls, Ernie, Look, Listen and Learn.” HE did, and enjoyed a damn good career in professional football, and he remains so proud of his contribution in that winning season all those years ago! Now roll on Sunday!
United ‘til I die!
Smashing young player and it's wondful that he's a local M/C lad.
Up the Reds!
I guess I first sat up and took notice of Danny when we beat a very strong Arsenal team in the Youth Cup semi-final about 4 years ago. He looked then to have the attributes to succeed - he is deceptively quick (when he gets into his galloping stride !), has good close control, is reasonably good in the air and a decent shot. As with all youngsters coming through at OT, the drawback is getting enough minutes on the pitch to lose your (natural) nervouness so that you can demonstrate your true potential. It is very important that supporters give Welbeck the confidence to work his way into that mental state and not get on his back if he makes the odd mistake. During his time at Sunderland and so far this season, Danny certainly looks like he could prove to have staying power in the side and, with him a local lad, it is a thing that most United fans crave.
We can't get rid of Berbatov, because then we become a one trick pony up front.
I am not Berbatov's biggest fan. But.
Herandez, Welbeck, Owen and Macheda are very much from the same bag; if needed, Berbatov changes the game. Fergie likes to have something totally different if needed, and thats what we get with him.
But I think thats what he'll be kept for; changing something, as and when required. As well as for home games against the likes of west brom, norwich and citeh.
Has a blue, I must say that I am glad for Danny Welbeck. He's been given the chance and he's took it with both feet. His back heel assist was sublime, he's a natural. He's got the Glazers to thank I'd say. He wouldn't have got a sniff if you's could afford real proven quality, ie Aguero. So look on the bright side of being peppered lads.
