It was a home goodbye to Edwin Van der Sar and, who knows, it could yet have been Paul Scholes' Premier League tara on his home soil.
Michael Owen might also be wondering if he's played his last Old Trafford match for the Reds.
That trio were able to enjoy this occasion no matter what happens but for Owen Hargreaves his Carrington training ground locker had already been cleared out and wasn't at the crowning of the title winners.
The midfielder who has suffered a torrid time in his United career battling against the chronic knee tendinitis, and subsequent niggling injuries has been told he won't have the chance of extending his stay on a pay-as-you-play deal and will have to try and resurrect his career away from Manchester.
It is a sad departure for a man who should have played a far bigger part in occasion like this since 2007 at United.
But the stadium was a place for celebration and it would have been no place for Hargreaves.
And once Blackpool had swallowed their disappointing fate and exited it was time for the ticker tape and champagne.
There could be no complaints and recriminations from the losers in the relegation dogfight as far as United's part in the finale was concerned.
Probably only three players, Van der Sar, Vidic and Evra, were nailed on to tackle Barca.
The rest had personal reasons to remind Fergie that they should be seriously considered for the job of taking on Lionel Messi and Co or at least be in kit rather than a suit at Wembley.
The eccentric and entertaining Seasiders boss Ian Holloway got a warm reception from the Old Trafford crowd so it was clear where their allegiances lay at the foot of the table.
But the Reds paid scant regard for their predicament as they set about the job in hand with relish.
Having been dragged through the mangle on so many tension-filled days and evening since August Old Trafford was able to sit back in the seats that they've been sat on the egd of for most of the campaign.
But typically the Reds were still able to squeeze some drama for TV on this final day.
These much-maligned title winner's number one commodity this season has been their resilience and even in the last 90 minutes they had to produce the same quality to ensure the home form didn't have a debit on it.
United flowed into a 20th minute lead when Darren Fletcher started an excellent move.
He maybe called upon at Wembley for a more disciplined role combating the might of Barca's engine room but his through ball to set up the opener would also be welcome on the big Euro night.
Dimitar Berbatov added his flourish to the move with a subtle nudge on to Park who snapped up the chance.
Blackpool's skipper Charlie Adam has been linked with an Old Trafford move during the season and is a cert to depart Bloomfield Road and a stay in the Premier League somewhere.
If Paul Scholes calls it a day then the Scot certainly has something in his locker that would make him a candidate as a potential successor.
Adam's scorching 40th minute free kick sadly made sure Van der Sar would not close his United account with a Premier League clean sheet.
He was fishing the ball out of his net again in the 57th minute after Taylor-Fletcher turned in a cross.
But one of the night's that epitomised United's never-say-die spirit this term was at Blackpool in January when they were 2-0 down at half time.
So a 2-1 deficit at home with over half an hour to go wasn't going to be beyond them.
Anderson finished off Park's 62nd minute cross and then as Blackpool's survival hung in the balance United turned the screw.
A Chris Smalling cross was turned into his own net by Ian Evatt and then Michael Owen stuck the knife in from an Anderson pass. Tweet

No surprises but Blackpool played some nice football until they tired. Would have been nice for Berba to get a couple but I wish he wouldn’t get caught offside so much.
Well done lads, that cup looks pretty good on you and well done Blackpool I hope they make it back to the Premier League soon.
Thank you Sir Alex.
Booo!!!! You could have let Blackpool win to stay in the league ya big red meanies, Booo!!!!
UNITED , We are the Champions 19 times !

VDS : Average . Rafael : Fair , Smalling : good . Vidic : Good . Evans : Poor ( as usual ) and Evra : fair . Nani : Average . Scholes : Average . Fletcher : Average . Anderson : Very good . Park : Good . Berbatov : Average . Owen : Good . Rooney : ?
Owen 1 on 1, a magnificent sight. A real joy to watch the celebrations. And hey a goal from central midfield, what does this mean? And a question, folks. After Giggs with 12 titles, and Scholes 10, who is next that is still in the team? O'Shea? Rio? And oh to be SAF's grandchild today. How much fun must that have been?
Well done Lads.
That was the same score as the 1948 FA Cup Final.
LOVE TO SAY CONGRATULATIONS,,,,, BUT I WONT
The ref tried to make it a more interesting game by denying United a clear penalty, then awarding Blackpool a mystery free kick from which Adam scored but you always had the impression that United had too much for Blackpool. The way they have approached their season in the Premier League did Blackpool proud but, unfortunately, their attacking attractiveness was at the expense of effective defending. Ah well, the parachute payment should enable them to live well for a few years.
WELL DONE TO THE CHAMP19NS OF ENGLAND. ANOTHER FINE DISPLAY AND COMEBACK PROVING WHY WE ARE THE GREATEST TEAM IN THE LAND.
How is it possible to get more and more proud of your club year after year. They never tire of pleasing us do they? Going to toast this historic day and enjoy every sip.
CHEERS EVERYONE!
Well done lads, 9 points clear of nearest challengers - something we've only bettered four times in our history and only three times in the Premier League era. Dominant.
ps - Gutted for Blackpool, a real loss to the prem, as is the legend that is Ian Holloway.
Well played Blackpool in a very entertaining game. They played very well going forward but their defence is utter tosh and that’s why they’re down.
I didn’t think our defence played well at all. We conceded two and couldn’t have complained had it been four?
Our midfield had a mixed day. Park did well on the opening two goals but it wasn’t his best game. Nani was typically wasteful and infuriating. Anderson was having one of his days before coming to life with a goal & assist. Fletch put in a useful shift but still looks way off the player he can be and I don’t think he’ll start in the final.
Scholes was excellent and MOM for me. What can I say about The Berb? Well, he had at least six scoring opportunities and missed the sodding lot! You can say what you like about him but he’s not worth his place in the side.
We’ve won the title by a staggering 9 points considering how jumpy we all were a couple of weeks back when Chelsea were closing?
I don’t know what will happen against Barca but this season has already surpassed my expectation.
It’s been a great achievement by Fergie and by the squad. There are question marks against so many players but somehow between them they produced a magnificent finale. Like many I think this is Fergie’s greatest achievement.
Thanks to all the players for a wonderful season.Vds,Owen and Gary will be missed but we have so much young talent our future is bright. To all the naysayers who repeatedly said that this team was not good enough just how many points did we top the table ahead of the others? To the Fergie critics--wrong again. I basically left this site in January because of the nastiness and stupidity of some of the posters. At the time I suggested that they talk to me in May. Well I'm back but where are Danny and his merry band of followers? The fat lady has sung. !9 and counting. Bring on Barca!
Congratulations to you all!
It will be very interesting to see how the authorities deal with the faux pas by the Wolves player live on TV as he celebrated with Mick McCarthy whilst the latter was being interviewed by the BBC. Maybe the 'F' word is looked on differently by the powers that be, even on live TV, when a relegation battle is won?
It just shows how real life works and the authortities should climb down from the ivory tower and accept mistakes are made in the heat of the game, win, lose, in anger or celebration.
6 more sleeps!!!
Finished nine points clear of Chelsea (and of course City) and this shows quite a gulf in class! Well done lads, hopefully you will do us proud next week.
Does anyone know where I can buy fireworks at this time of year in order to celebrate next Saturday? Preferably on sale or return in case we lose!!! (joke).
Well done Mickey Owen on your first EPL medal. If you can't win one with the Dippers,go where you can(almost guaranteed) to win one!
Next season, please start as you finished this season and don't lose any silly games as my duodenal ulcer won't stand much more!
I believe that the Bitters will all claim that they finished joint second instead of third!
Pity about OH, he is a legend for what he did in Moscow. Don't think we would have won but for him. Good luck!
What a super day. Great win and terrific celebrations. So nice to see MO get his first championship medal. I do hope he stays it was a superbly taken goal. On top of that we finish nine points ahead of Chelski who have sacked Carlo.
There are two significant things that have happened that changed the course of the season for me. One involving Chelski and one involving us.
THEY sacked Ray Wilkins and WE signed on The Roo.
Wilkins went and they capitulated Wayne stayed and we won the Prem and are now facing Barca in the CL final.
I know that you will all have your own thoughts about what changed the course of the season for you and I will respect them all but the lessons are there for all to learn who own or run football clubs. Allow and let the manager manage. If he wants to try and keep a player who maybe had his head turned in the wrong direction by being ill advised let him sort it out but don't buy him a £50 million pound striker he might not want and don't sell his trusted number two. Simples.
Anyway well done to SAF the backroom team and THE team.
Big vote of thanks to Edwin and all the best for whatever he has plans for next. So nice to see Annmarie looking so well. Best of good luck to Hargo too.
Can't wait for Saturday.
United in my heart blood and soul.
CHAMPIONS!!
A great sight to see the celebrations at OT! An amazing home record saved the season and for us doubters, it's great to see a 9 point lead at the end of the season. Sorry Berbatov couldn't connect a few times; in some ways, he would be missed if he leaves because of his skills. And his goals earlier in the season kept us alive. But I suspect his number is up, especially as his contract talks have broken down. It will be something to beat Barca, but if not, we have achieved 19. And that will make this another successful season, despite the rocky away performances. Finally, is there anyone more gracious than VDS? He will be sorely missed.
A fun game. A sweet moment. A great celebration. Would have loved Berbs to get Golden Boot. Nine points in front. Weird season which is just about to get more brilliant. Feel sorry for Holloway, Premier League needs guys like him. Respect to Blackpool for how they play. Thoroughly enjoyed being in the crowd with my family. Couple of days of strong drink, a few to sober up, and then the next party. Life is good, for a believer.
Just arrived home after having enjoyed a celebratory scoop or two in Hanrahans. Very little to say tonight, except for the fact that my voice is hoarse and my eyes are still a wee bit moist.
I will therefore simply be happy to proclaim something that I have done so many times before – “ Oh such joy to be a United Fan”!
United ‘til I die!
As maddening as Nani can be in trying for his own glory, I truly felt he spent the whole game trying to get Berbs that goal. Well done, lad, in my opinion.
Hats off to the entire team for playing this game to win. You don't need to go into the biggest game of the year coming off a disappointing performance, and thanks to your efforts, we don't!
G0 GET BARCA!!! On, United!
