Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will fear Newcastle game, says Alan Pardew

WARNING: Alan Pardew
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew reckons Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is frightened of St James' Park.

The last time the Magpies beat the Reds at St James' was back in September 2001 but Pardew still reckons the home crowd can have an impact.

“It is a fixture I genuinely believe Sir Alex will be very wary of,” said Pardew.

“Maybe not so much because he fears us as a team but because he fears the ground and the reaction it can inspire the team to.

“For example, the Arsenal game. We were 4-0 down and our first goal goes in and suddenly you felt the crowd erupt and impact on the game.

“That is what he will fear perhaps more than the team but I honestly believe he will genuinely fear this game.

“Of course, I am aware of the tradition of the fixture. It is an iconic match. I think back to ‘96 and the Cantona goal.

“It sort of sets the tone for you for the rest of that season. Then there was the famous 5-0 revenge the following year. It has been extremes really.

“Can we be part of that tradition? Well, we beat Liverpool, and there is an opportunity for us to get a big, big scalp.

“They have only lost a handful of games all season but we have looked at how they lost and we have come up with what we believe is a kind of theme.

“They have Rooney, Berbatov, Nani. Our defence will need to be on song.”

Do United have anything to be afraid of? Have your say.

Sir Alex Ferguson fears St James' Park - dont think so feller.

Manchester United fears nothing and nobody, especially a club like Newcastle or a ground like St James' Park.

United are looking forward to winning tonight, a chance to put right the wrongs of Saturday. It is Newcastle who are scared.

A good win tonight for Manchester United, the Premier Lge is in our hands and our only rivals to the crown (Arsenal) are cracking up under the pressure.

Time to become Champions for the 19th time.

Dream on Alan. If this is the gist of your team talk can't see it inspire your lads on to glory.

I expect a United backlash for Newcastle tonight and Spurs to end Arsenal's hopes tomorrow. Win tonight and I think its a safe bet that we will win the title.

Always thought you were quite smart.......

Newcastle haven't got a great deal, and can fall apart quite easily.
I would suspect our best tactic is to get a couple early and let the rest of the game drift along comfortably...

If the game drags on without a goal, the tension will undoubtedly kick in with our players. It's important for the likes of Rooney, Giggs, Rio, Vidic etc to keep everyone around them calm and patient.

I think Pardew is a poor manager and i'll never understand why he got the Newcastle job.

Although I spent 5 years in England in the seventies, I never went to St James' park to watch United. However, I recall a comment made by Sir Bobby Charlton about the Newcastle ground during his playing days. He said that it was always a difficult pitch to play on because of its location and the high wind that always seem to be blowing there. Is it any different today I wouldn't know but I've always had an uneasy feeling when United play there.

I was in great pain laughing at Pardews comments. We have played and won in more in intimadating venues this season.

He talks about games that took place over ten years ago when the clubs were on a more even playing field. I'd like to refer to more recent statistics... We beat them in the last 4 meetings and they have failed to beat us since 2001. Wayne Rooney 14 goals in 10 games against Newcastle... I'd be more worried about them stats Alan!

As for coming back against Arsenal... They have the mental strength of a gerbal. They have cracked under pressure so many times this season you couldn't believe.

I'm not being cocky or arrogant when I say I am very confident Manchester United will get 3 points tonight.
