GARY Neville has admitted he can understand why sections of the Manchester United support have an anti-England agenda.
Chants of "Argentina" are not uncommon at Old Trafford after a series of events involving England and the Football Association which have led to a feeling among fans that the governing body purposely try to isolate the Red Devils for extreme punishment.
Neville, who won his 73rd cap against Spain in November, was himself the subject of anti-United chants at Wembley during a friendly encounter with Saudi Arabia in 1998.
And he has had to look on in disbelief as David Beckham got singled out for England's failure in that year's World Cup, brother Phil suffered the same fate in Euro 2000 and then Rio Ferdinand was landed with a nine-month ban for missing a drugs test when Adrian Mutu only received an eight-month suspension for testing positive for a banned substance.
Now, there is another grumble to add to the list after Wayne Rooney was charged with violent conduct for shoving Tal Ben Haim in the face during the Boxing Day encounter with Bolton.
"I can understand why some United fans think like they do," said Neville on an exclusive MUTV phone-in.
"Over the last six or seven years, there have been some bad experiences for United players.
"The fans see what happened to David Beckham in 1998, my brother in 2000 and Rio Ferdinand last year and feel they have either been let down or not looked after. That is where it comes from.
"But that is the way it is at Manchester United. There is nothing you can do about it and deep down, I am sure the vast majority want England to win even if, like I used to be when I was a kid, they don't go out of their way to actually support them by being at the games."
Do you agree with Neville? Have your say.

So Rooney is going to get a ban, no surprise, any misdemenour of any degree by a united player gets hammered.
If EVERY off the ball incident by players from ANY team were punished, I would have no complaints. United players ALWAYS get done (remember Scholes last season), other players occasionally get done
