ROY Keane has declared himself ready to stay on at Manchester United beyond 2006.
The United captain will now look to justify an extension to his contract, which expires in 18 months' time.
Keane will turn 35 in the summer of 2006, and the hip injury which has blighted his game over recent seasons had led many to believe he would retire upon the expiry of his present deal.
Yet he has sprung back to top form for United of late, and Keane is optimistic that his Old Trafford career, which began after a move from Nottingham Forest in 1993, could still have several years to run.
"I could not be happier at the club and my biggest challenge is to keep going as long as I can," Keane told the Daily Mail.
"I have another year and a half left and I intend to see that out. If I am still able to play on after that, then I hope it will be at United.
"If I feel as good as this physically in a year's time, then I will hopefully try to play on."
Keane recognises that any decision is out of his hands, however his long service could persuade United to reward the skipper with an extension.
"As long as United want me, then I'm happy to stay," he added.
"I don't like looking too far ahead as things can change quickly.
"But if, please God, I can stay fit and feel strong and doing okay, then it's possible I could stay.
"I hope that there will be some more highlights to come in my career with this club."
How long can Keane continue at the top level? Have your say.

So he should. As I have argued recently that Roy is the cornerstone to the newly formulated 4-1-4-1 attacking system. With the four attacking midfielders (a quartet made up from Ronaldo, Rooney, Smith, Scholes, and Giggs) it is crucial that Roy plays in front of the back four. His reading of the game is crucial for protecting the defence line when the attacking midfielders go forward.
I bet he is where else could he earn 90.000 per week for doing so little.Has he ever won an award? doubt it never even played in the final against Munich neither did Scholes, they must be pig sick!
It amazes me that as ROY is getting older still no one seems capable of ousting him from his midfield slot.He has or is a fantastic player.I just hope he can still cut the mustard at the very highest level. The A C MILAN game may give us the answer.
He did not cut it against Madrid at OT. did that not give you a clue.now he is to slow and his body and feet cant compete with his brain.
Blue moon, you really are a saddo. Keano is one of the best players of his generation and without peer in his position. He also has cabinets full of medals and will almost certainly play in a CL final with United before he hangs up his boots. Boots that no current City player is fit enough to lace.
Thats great news, we need Roy more than ever now, I hope he stays on, Long Live the legend!
well bluemoon... take yer city-gang with you and pay for yer rented coms!!! blue rubbish!!!
do you remember a polish side called AMICA WRONKI that crashed you out of the UEFA-CUP? a massive club with massive depts.. just MASSIVE!
Roy is outstanding. He is still world class. In my eyes he is our Michel Platini. We need him more than ever! KEANO,KEANO - There is only one KEANO!!! KEANO!!! KCANO!
Good to see all the Bitter Massives over from the dark side. Welcome boys and enjoy a real football site. Onto keano, have to disagree on this one. If keano wants an extension to his contract why did he restart his intertional career with Ireland? Sorry his time ie coming to an end, especially when we have to rest him for specific games. Off course this is no reflection on what he`s done and achieved with us, just simple facts, old age is catching up.
Blue Mood, I think you will find that Keano won players player of the year a few years back....unless I dreamt that.
get rid of that idiot, he is probably a saddo Man City fan, get a life, ROY WE LOVE YOU!
