United are set to reward Dimitar Berbatov with a new long-term contract at Old Trafford.
The Bulgarian has 18 months left on his current deal and Sir Alex Ferguson knows there are a host of clubs waiting
to swoop for the £30.75m striker.
The Premier League’s leading goalscorer this season with 14 has finally found his feet at Old Trafford and will be offered a three-year extension and improved terms on around £120,000 a week.
United chiefs are confident negotiations will go smoothly with Berbatov’s representatives already making it clear he
wants to end his career with the club.
The 29-year-old has impressed Ferguson with his attitude this season, overcoming the inconsistent performances that blighted him following his move from Tottenham.
This term he has produced the kind of displays that made him one of Europe’s most sought after strikers at White Hart Lane, carrying the goal-scoring burden as Wayne Rooney has struggled with injury and form. A hat-trick against Liverpool and five against Blackburn have been the highlights, making him a favourite on the terraces.
With Berbatov on song and Javier Hernandez making such an impressive start to life in England since his £7m move from Chivas last summer, Ferguson is prepared to let Federico Macheda go out on loan for the remainder of the
season.
The Italian under-21 international is being targeted by Serie A clubs, Fiorentina, Juventus, Parma and Lazio and is hoping to secure a move back to his homeland.
But Ferguson wants the 19-year-old to gain more Premier League experience, just like other loanees Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley who have been so impressive at Sunderland and Wigan respectively this season.
Wigan and Bolton are both hoping to lure Macheda and Ferguson says he is willing to let the teenager go wherever
he can continue his development.
“He has to play,” he said. “If any club comes along and convinces the player and me that he’ll get games, they will be the ones we will be thinking about.
“He’s thinking about Italy, but I’d hope it will be the Premier League.
“So far only one club has phoned, but I’m sure there will be more in the next few days.”
Patrice Evra, meanwhile, was relieved to see Rooney back on the scoresheet on Saturday.
“I am very glad for Wayne. He deserved to score because has been working so hard in training,” said Evra. “He showed what character he has at the end when he came back on to the pitch.
“That was good for Manchester United and now I hope Wazza can score more goals.”
Even the United camp must have accepted referee Chris Foy got it wrong over Gary Neville’s tackle on Graham
Dorrans which should have given West Brom a first-half penalty.
Evra said: “I am not the referee. I am a United player and I am glad he stayed on the pitch,” he said.
Now United must quickly re-energise themselves for tomorrow’s visit of Stoke with Nani possibly in line for a recall after his recent hip problem.
It will be United’s fourth game in nine days, before a short break that precedes an FA Cup tie with Liverpool and a mouth-watering Premier League trip to Tottenham. Not that Evra is complaining.
“Yes, it is difficult for the body. Yes, we are tired. But it is also a privilege,” he said. “Some people have to get up at 6am and do something they don’t like. This is England. It is the best football in the world.”

a host of clubs...where?
Give gim 5000 quid a week more than Rooney's getting.
Fantastic news!
No doubt the FLOP as we like to call him over at EASTLANDS will be back to his ROONESQUE best very soon.Hes gone from the worst ever striker to the worlds best, you clowns truly are the ficklest of the fickle.
Well deserved his form this season has been fantastic, all the doubters calling him Berbaflop can wipe their mouths now!
Berbatop is more well suited :)
Apparently Accrington Stanley asked about a loan move till the end of the season but Berbatov didn't like the colour of the changing rooms
we need a true class midfielder please fergie tell the truth glazers gave you money to spent.j.mifsud malta....
At last some SENSE coming out OT. The man is so much better than Rooney (and everyone else at the club), he deserves 10 times Rooneys salary. It is no coincidence that Berbas form is now superb, it is because he ia playing every week. He would have played like this from the start if Sir had played him properly. Even so, Berba is still treated like apoor relation. What other player could score 5 and then STILL get dropped for the next Premiership game? Rooney can go 10 games without scoring and NEVER be in danger of being dropped. And Berba would never belittle and soil the clubs image like Rooney, Berba has far more class on and off the pitch than him. Now lets have some more sense: Nev and Giggs to retire, Gibson to be sold, Cleverley to replace him and Sir to wake up to the fact that Evans will NEVER be in the same league as Rio, Vida or dare I speak his name Wes
Where are all the berbatov knockers now eh? Berbaflop eh?
I don't know about anybody else but it was always obvious to me he is a special player.
May he go from strength to strength
Increasing his contract is your only option. No one would bid for him and you cant afford to replace him
Thirty million and 120k a week you have to be havin a laf ! MUEN with the red specs on again.
If Berbaflop is worth that, then Dzeko is worth 90 million and 300k a week when he walks on to the hallowed turf of the dream makers later this month.
Thats Eastlands you rags, not the theartre of debt, ( we know wastelands so dont bother).
And just a final point for you rags wont be long now that you can bleat on about 34yrs Bobbies plan is commin together.Joint top, got to play you again, and much easier 2nd half to the season than you rags and wont have to worry about injuries. LOVE IT !
sir alex had faith in berba now he is reaping rewards...the bitter clowns are going to sell all there strikers who havent scored and buy new ones ..this is why citeh are never gonna win nowt
he's been here nearly 3 season with us and only given us handfull of good performances and now he gets a new contract? if we are giving him a new one so we get some decent money back when we sell him then i'm all up for it.
as for the 'host of clubs after him'? dont make me laugh!
I wish to take exception to the remark that Berbatov found
his feet this season,If Ferguson had truly appreciated Beratov's
ability in the first two seasons United would surely have beaten
Liverpool's record.
It is strange that there are still some people who want him to leave
United. He is the only player in the team whose style of play thrills
you to the core.He has great touch, vision, gracefullness and creativity.
His passes are silky smooth, accurate and perfectly weighted. He
could score goals with either foot and with his head as well.He is
also strong and has a good pace.
He certainly deserves a bumper raise.Long may he continue to
delight our senses and mind.
He is a genius. Please watch...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxJ9wdXXbwY
Berbatov being set for a new deal is great news, I always knew he'd find his feet and prove he belongs here at the worlds biggest club Manchester United, totally worth £30.75m. united need BEBE - United fans most fickle? we're not the ones who hated Queen Carlos for 2yrs and called her everything under the sun before crawling for forgiveness, you want fickle,City are the worse, typical deluded bitter, still upset Berba wasnt interested in City. How's being held to ransom by Dzeko going, pathetic.
The truth is no one wants him because he's far too inconsistent, moody, slow and getting slower. He's been better this season only because he was a non-event for the last 2. It seems you really don't have to do alot these days to get a bumper new contract at OT.
Maybe we should offer him to Wigan and recall Cleverly instead. Then we wouldn't damage the good relationship with the Latics as much as if we just withdrew TC and didn't care about it. Think we should maintain these relations as we can see how valuable they are in developing the young players (e.g. Welbeck)....
It's been reported in Italy that Macheda wants to join Genoa on loan, take it for what it's worth. Bolton, WBA, Wigan, Villa, Everton, Juventus, Parma, Lazio, Inter, Genoa, Fiorentina, Udinese are who I have seen being linked in loan deals for Macheda. £120kpw is a good contract for a man of Berbatov's talent/skill. Berba is a world class star, alot of footballers are getting superstar salaries when they are just average, our reserve players are better than all of the guys I am thinking of.
Come on you Reds...Go for it.......This is the time to play the way MUFC can...we march onto the Title NOW !!!!
Im still not convinced. Ok he is top scorer with 14 goals in the Premier, but 8 of those goals have come in 2 games. He has still played in more games when he hasnt scored than games he has. How many seasons has he been here now and hes only just started scoring the amount of goals a £31 million striker should, every season. Why against the bigger teams, or more difficult teams does Fergie drop him. At £31 million he should be like Rooney an ever present, but he just isnt going to regularily win you big games.
Formerly the 'new new White Pele'.
Now the 'new new new new new new White Pele'
Phew hard to keep up with this lot!
Great news rof the premiers top shot shot
Brillant talent that is a pleasure to watch. Good news.
Kaka is on his way to United on loan and has rejected City again he said its not just about money or History its about being part of the future and United continue to shine
