The match will see a return to Old Trafford for Gabriel Heinze.
Rio Ferdinand has the chance to revisit an old haunt following the draw.
With its 60,000 capacity and partisan southern French crowd, Ferdinand knows United are in for a hot night when they head out for the first leg on February 23.
"It will be a hard place to go," Ferdinand said. "You are talking about passionate fans in a big stadium. I went there with England in the 1998 World Cup, so I know it will be tough."
Although United have tended to get the better of recent encounters with French teams, a defeat to Lille in Paris was a major factor in their ultimate demise in the group stage of the 2005-06 competition, so 32-year-old Ferdinand is taking nothing for granted.
"We have come across French teams a fair bit," he added. "They have always been tough games and never with loads of goals. I don't expect this will be much different.
"But this is the knockout stage and where you earn your pennies. It is not a league situation. There is no chance to make up ground. We have to be right on the day."
The draw for the last 16 of the Champions League is:
Roma v Shakhtar Donetsk
AC Milan v Tottenham
Valencia v Schalke
Inter Milan v Bayern Munich
Lyon v Real Madrid
Arsenal v Barcelona
Marseille v Manchester United
FC Copenhagen v Chelsea
The first legs will be played on February 15/16/22/23 with the second legs on March 8/9/15/16.

Easy easy, Great draw. Rematch from last seasons final + A beautiful (cough cough) game of football between arsenal and barcelona. Personally I think it might be a one sided massacre
On one hand, it'll be good to see Gabby back.
But on the other, I never liked the way he left, angling for a move to merseydive.
As with Tevez, these argy's have no loyalty, I'm sure they are still hung up on the Falklands DEFEAT!!!!!
I had a feeling we'd get Marseille, not easy but with the seond tie at home I fancy us to go through. Don't envy Arsenal but should be a great game as will the Spurs Milan one. Looking forward to it. Up the reds!
As usual we get the toughest draw whilst Arsenal get another easy ride like Chelsea.I fancy Spurs to beat Milan and we should get past the FRENCH even with one of the fans players of the year on their side.
got lucky again in the draw! hope to make it to the final again. need to buy in the window to give us a better chance.
couldnt find city in the draw? did uefa make a mistake?

For me that's a good draw all round, except Chelsea got the expected easy tie.
For me the teams that will progress will be Shakhtar, Milan, Valencia, Bayern, Real, Barcenal, United and Chelsea. I think that gets rid of Inter, Spurs and Lyon who could prove tricky on their day. I'm pleased with the draw.
It is a good draw for me although I wasn't fearing anyone at this stage. I tell you what though I hope the Arse beat Barca. As for beanzie coming back who cares.
AS FORCAST ANOTHER EASY DRAW NEVER MIND LETS HOPE ITS MILAN IN THE LAST 16
I actually think Arsenal will get through against Barcelona. True Barca are a great team, but they are not used to playing Premier League quality. And remember, Khaleds ALWAYS right
not a bad draw.
Brilliant draw for us.I was hoping for Copenhagen or Marseille and we got one, so im very happy with that. And by the time we play the 2nd leg we will have Antonio Valencia fit again which will be a massive boost for us.We will also possibly have Tom Cleverley back and maybe a new signing, so it's all looking good for me.
I also don't know why so many are blowing off Barcalona! Yes they are a brilliant team but far from unbeatable.Already this season they have been beaten by the mighty........Hercules at the Nou Camp and struggled to a 1-1 draw with Mallorca their. So they are not invinceable. And you don't actually have to win the actual games as a 1-1 draw away & 0-0 at home will see you through. So everyone has a chance of winning the competition, and i have a feeling that Arsenal will provide the shock of the round by knocking out Barca.
Yawn... give me the Premier League any day. The over-hyped and frankly boring progression of the Champions League towards the usual suspects has lost all of the novelty appeal it had in the 90s.
I would take the league for the next 5 years than win this trumped up bore-fest.
(Which isn't to say I won't be cheering for us in the latter stages)
iniesta messi xavi v fletcher park anderson ... i so hope u meet in next round it would be fun
Should go through. Marseille are no great shakes.
Poor Gunners. I hear the Nou Camp pitch is impeccable. Arsene might just blame the weather on this one. As for us, well let's not take Marseille lightly. We have no excuse though if we fail. Bolster the midfield Fergie. Looking for a striker Fergie? Try Knowledge Musona, Kaizer Chieft, South Africa, tall, fast, and mad ball skills. Only 21yrs old
Don't think we can complain about this draw: only Chelsea were luckier. Let's hope we keep injury free and that Wayne gets his shooting boots on.
So we land Marseille, the Champions of France (Barelona didn't want either French side), gonna be a tough encounter but should be good.Manchester United vs. Marseille, we should be going to the quarter finals.
Big shock, Chelsea get s the easiest tie, first they get the easiest group and now this, big surprise. Tottenham are out, AC are not in turmoil like Inter and well Barca will tear Arsenal apart again like last season.
Good draw! There's no easy teams but I'm confident that we should progress to the last 16!
Went to the Stade Velodrome a few years back, great atmosphere created by the Marseilles fans and not the easy tie that some are predicting.
Over two legs and being at home second I think we'll just shade it, away goals will be vital as we know from our own bad experiences in the past.
Come on you reds!
should be interesting to see what kind of reception heinze get..a good one i hope...on the draw...well could have been better in the sense of copenhagen but i rather we play a descent side so we dont carry any complacency going into the game..should be a good game just hate going to france haha.
United fans loved Heinz but he dis-respected us. Give him Hell.
