O'Shea rallies Reds

John O'Shea

John O'Shea will peel himself away from the Ryder Cup coverage to try to help Manchester United record their first Premier League away win, knowing that particular job should have been done already.

The Irishman is a keen golfer, lauded by some as the best player in the United dressing room.

With fellow countryman Padraig Harrington involved, he will be keeping a close eye on Europe's progress at the soggy surrounds of Celtic Manor.

But on Saturday afternoon, the only sporting event O'Shea is interested in will be United's trip to the Stadium of Light to face Sunderland.

And the defender knows the Reds should be heading north with at least two away wins under their belts already after the unusual late collapses at Fulham and Everton.

"We should definitely have a couple of away wins on the board right now," he said.

"I can't really explain why it has gone wrong. Teams have not been tearing us apart. It has literally been the drop of a ball that has gone against us.

"It is only a matter of time before we start keeping clean sheets away from home and there is no better time to start than tomorrow.

"Not that we are under any illusions about how difficult the task is going to be.

"We have had very tough games at Sunderland down the years and it seems Steve Bruce in particular enjoys the battles against his old manager."

O'Shea is set for a recall after missing Wednesday's Champions League win over Valencia at the Mestalla Stadium.

As generally happens when United have to play twice in a week, Sir Alex Ferguson will make a significant number of changes as his team try to cope with the physical demands of following up a European away-day with a road trip in the Premier League.

"It isn't easy but we have done it enough down the years to know how to handle it," he said.

"You have to respond to it positively, otherwise you don't get the right result and it can end up costing you in the league.

"We must have the right attitude and the right physical approach.

"If we don't, Sunderland will come out on top."

The plan is to collect three points, then spend Sunday flicking between the golf and Chelsea's blockbuster encounter with Arsenal.

"I am interested in the Ryder Cup," he said.

"A lot of the guys in the dressing room like to play, although it is obviously difficult when the European games start up.

"Most of us are of similar standard, which is not very good.

"But we are all looking forward to Europe winning this weekend."

What do you think? Have your say.

ok hes not great,i fear the worst when i see him on the team sheet when its against the stronger teams, but its guys like him who put in a decent performaces all over the park inc in the goal{but it has to be against the weaker teams to give first team players a rest} over the course of the season that makes us champions[ok not this season, but most]

jos is a true professional, who always gives 100% to utds cause, never moans, never drags our good name through the gutter, its not his fault that he isnt utd standard, all he does is try his best, give the guy a break, you want to blame someone blame fergie for thinking hes good enough or glazer for not giving fergie the funds to improve our team.

nice to hear dimslow running down the irish again ur right about most of us needing a stick though to beat some sense into you.I dont remember best needing a stick nor keane nor irwin but you obviously havent a clue about football and i think you,re a city fan.UNITED have had loads of great irish players over the years and its time to stop your nasty racist idiotic remarks .then again why am i bothering to rise to your brain dead drivill.

I think some of the players should participate in a cheer-leading team like they have in the NFL.

So O'Shea, Delaet and Park will dance and run before the game and at half time to rally the crowd and Evans could be used as a team mascot wearing a furry costume and dancing on the sideline when we score.

it must kill all you anti- o shea clowns that John earns more in one week than you do in a year, if the great man wants to play him every week that is fine by me, by the way if any of you posting here has access to some technology, please review the valencia game , in particular look at three incidents between 58 mins and 62 mins involving the young brazilian, the result of this game could have been so different!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!but then again who wants to deal in facts, it's not like they are important, I remember a big laugh when we signed a Gaelic footballer, remember a chap called kevin moran, of course the clowns on here probably don't go back that far, Keep smiling johnno

O'Sheat rallies reds? He's always telling others what to do when he should be looking to himself. Whenever he gets the ball (and who knows why anyone passes to him) he gives it away. He's always pointing to where people should be, when he's missing in defence. He blames others for having no vision to see people to pass to. Hopeless. He's regressed massively. Stick to golf!

John , my dear : Man utd played VERY well in ALL of their away matches this season .

It was only down to YOU and Evans that teams got back at you . When I look at Rafael

and Fabio on the bench or in the reserves and look at you , the two Johnys , running

out of the tunnel , I wonder if FOOTBALL's logic has turned on its head .

You are better of being a golf play you are so poor

I have to say this, John O’Shea are not good enough to play for Manchester United, which is a fact. Rafael and Brown are fare above this boy in the right back position.

Others players who really need to step up are Evans, Carrick and Park, do we need them? United have players like Smalling, Anderson and Obertan/Bebe; please use them before the trio above.

And come on Sir Alex, sign Steven Defour in January. I just now that boy will become a great player for us. Next summer you also need to get a really good keeper, don’t forget that.

At the moment I would like to see you play this team week out and week in. When Rooney are ready, let him take Hernandez place if he can do it.

What a pathetic little anti-United anti-Fergie clown Danny truly is, the idiot lack's so much knowledge on football, Manchester United and life in general. Just a clueless internet dork desperate to act like he have's a clue, clueless little school boy. Sir Alex know's more about football than some clown like you will ever know, Sir Matt loved Fergie, Sir Bobby love's Fergie, ManUtd love's Fergie, the ManUtd faithful love's Fergie, it doesn't matter what some rag tag clown like you thinks. Danny = Joke.

Danny : I can not agree with you regarding Fletcher . He is a good player . In fact he is the ONLY good player in the CURRENT squad in the position of CM ( apart from the againg , BRILLIANT scholes ) .Anderson , Carrick and Gibson are ALL behind him . Hargreaves is not FIT for ME to compare him with .

He delivered the cross for Berba's 3rd against the scousers - give him a break !!!

Im sick to death of danny, son what are you 5 because you have got to be the most clueless ill-informed guy ive ever had to misfortune of knowing. Sir Alex is a genius, one of the true greats in the game, Sir Matt loved him, Sir Bobby loves him, the true United faithful loves him, the player & everyone at Old Trafford loves him, even journalists, rival managers, players & fans have great respect for him...then there is you, a complete idiot with no clue what so ever about the game & what makes a man great.
