Scholes was named man of the match in United's 3-1 win over Chelsea in the Community Shield, where Antonio Valencis, Javier Hernandez and Dimitar Berbatov were on target for the Reds.
Scholes told Sky Sports: "It was a good game and we're happy with the win.
"It's more of a pre-season friendly but it's a trophy, we've managed to win it and we're more than happy to do that.
"It's always good to beat Chelsea. They are a quality side who beat us three times last year. That's disappointing but we've got off to the right start this year.
"We weren't that far off last year - just one point in the league. With more determination this year hopefully we can go one step further."
However, asked if he was expecting a phone call from England manager Fabio Capello, with a view to revisiting his decision to end international career, Scholes said: "I don't think so, no."
United captain Nemanja Vidic, meanwhile, is confident the Community Shield trophy is not the only silverware the club will be laying hands on.
Vidic said afterwards: "I believe there will be more (trophies) - this is just the beginning.
"I think we have a good squad and showed today we have energy and showed some hunger."
The Serbian central defender continued on Sky Sports: "I think we did well today. Some players who haven't played a lot pre-season had time to build up their fitness and they did well.
"Dimitar had a lot of pressure last year and we hope this year we will score more goals."
Berbatov said: "It's my first goal in the Community Shield, so it's a good day for me. It's always good to score against a good side like Chelsea."
There was a difference in quality between Hernandez's goal - a shot which went in via his head - and Berbatov's composed finish.
But the Bulgarian added: "A goal is a goal, it doesn't matter how you score it. If the ball is in the net - that's what counts."
Salomon Kalou scored Chelsea's goal.

One down, four to go - we are looking very good indeed.
UNITED
With all due respect to El Scholesy, El Vida and Le Berba, we are still one of the softest team in the MF. It shows when we collapse too easily. We usually start each game well but we somehow against a good and average side tend not to finish strong compared to Chelsea. We are a good side but need just one player to put us over the top as competitive all round in the middle...
I watched Berbatov's reaction closely when the new hot gun scored and all I saw was genuine happiness for Hernandez. These comments here on the goals shows great humility on the part of Berbatov or possibly a knowledge that these 2 players have already developed a great understanding.

ONE WORD FOR SCHOLES , GOD . L.U.H.C.................
We still need a ztronger midfield , thats where our weakness is and maybe another defender now
I am simply running out of superlatives for the Ginger Genius!
United 'til I die!
Good but I'm afraid SAF might get carried away and forget he has no right back, no real midfielder and a back up GK. Ozil must be bought ( assuming Utd has a few quids really ) and a decent right back to add.
HA HA ITS ONLY A FRIENDLY YOU WON, NO POINTS FOR THAT . BESIDES IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN CHELSEA PLAYING CHELSEA AS THEY DID THE DOUBLE. HOPE YOU PLAY THAT TEAM WHEN WE PLAY YOU

Do NOT be afraid, our kid, the only 'carrying away' that SAF will do is to carry away the Premiership Trophy next May! Plus maybe more?
Trust and believe.
United 'til I die!
Fantastic opener to the season - A Scholes Masterclass - just one observation - if this is the Community Shield - How come - only Sky subscribers can view the match and the rest of the 'community' are excluded !!

I am worried about the midfield, fletcher has to have another outstanding season, and carrick/anderson have to step up(wont pin too much hope on the latter), coz clearly scholes is goin to play only a bit part role. Even if our players in midfield perform to potential, still think european succes will be a step too far...
SAF took Scholesy off because it was getting embarrassing the way he was running rings around the Chelski allstars.
POSTED ON THE CITY SITE EARLIER
To ""UTD Highest Average Attendance in Manc since records began (even in Div 2 when bitters were in Div 1""
I think your choice of name for submitting posts indicates a deep uneasiness and worry regarding City's obvious ascendancy.
It smacks of someone desperate to get a dig in even before a ball has been kicked.
Yes you are right to be concerned, with our world class signings in addition to Tevez, Bellers, Adebayore etc (the list goes on and on) you know there is a serious possibility you could get your a**e kicked next season!!
And City won't be the lame, powder puff set of players Chelsea were today
"The new hot gun"??!! talk about clutching at straws, In the heat of the premiership this lightweight will be scared to death, who is he? a Brazilian, German or Italian international?, no some mexican non-entity.
Plus you'd think you'd won the lottery when Vidic signed, pity you rags didn't it would have paid the glazers debts off for another 2 weeks.
Like all things quality, Scholes does not know how to be average.
Brilliant control of the game's tempo, along with a few daggers into
heart of Chelsea's defense, Paul Scholes showed why he's the man,
why Capello, Lipi, SAF and others who actually know the game, feel free to acknowledging the greatness and consistency of Paul Scholes.
Up the Reds!
Enjoy yourselves 'Rags', I have a feeling that this might be your last trophy for quite a while.
The only Trophy this season!!!!!! lol

In order there are good players then there are very good players. There are great players then brilliant players. There are International class players then world class players. There are players who are out of this world and there are then those classed as a genius. Then there is Paul Shcoles.
